normally has to do with the art style at least to my knowledge a lot of old cartoons did follow the 2d method like anime but later swapped to 3d or shitty cgsadly both parties have used cg.....


the main difference as i said is the art style japan and other countries that do anime so korea, china and one other cant remember it have a certain style when they first start making a manga (the book before the show or movie) cartoons dont have that they normally just start with a show (excluding old comics that got turned into a show way later in life)

the other big difference is the genre style cartoons are normally one style comedy. meanwhile anime you have thrillers, comedy, action, fantasy, adventure, romance, horror, gore, military, mecha, futuristic, drama, tragedy, the genre spectrum is all over and the story is more in depth where you get connected with characters and normally when death happens it hurts more then it should for a show. speaking from experience lol

Cartoons and comics traditionally are drawings and animations that take something to an extreme or unrealistic level. Think like Loony Tunes... Talking rabbits and coyotes and stuff trying to blow each other up, squeezing through pin sized holes. Not to say that there's not some cartoon-ish anime out there, though.

 

now not saying some cartoons dont have this but its extremely rare! the one show any anime watcher will always say is really close to anime but isnt is avatar the last airbender that show had loads of things from anime from romance to adventure to thriller to tragedy such an amazing show and cartoon
