Seems like you cant go wrong with either one, both should be good trucks.

Since it's a work truck I'd get the one with the most towing/hauling capacity. Other than that I'm a little biased towards Ford. I simply just like them a little more. They're both pretty much the same though so just test drive them both or toss a coin.

I have a personal bias against anything GM. I have owned a few, and hated all of them. However, if the MPG's are close to equal, I would much rather have a V8 than an Ecoboost, especially the smaller 2.7 liter. If I didn't personally own and maintain it, and these were my only choices, I would probably consider the Chevy for the V8 alone.

Ford for sure. You'll love the 2.7. I've got a 17 Lariat with the new 3.5TT and new 10spd on top of my 07 Taco. 10spd is a dream compared to anything else in its class. You'll be the guinea pig though, like I was with the 2nd gen 3.5 eco/10spd. It has its quirks and takes a little getting used to but it's awesome for towing. Don't know if the 2.7 comes with tow haul/sport mode though. In sport, it skips a gear every change. Sometimes if it knows you're not towing, it will start out in 2nd instead of the low low 1st and skip a gear each gear change. The 2.7 is surprisingly powerful for its size, you would never expect it, especially with its bump in power for 18'. I have the 501a package I believe, comes with the full Sony system along with Sync 3. For the 17 and below, the Sony system is not worth the extra 6k~ IMO, but Sync 3 is awesome. I've read and hoping that for 18, Ford is switching to B&O for their top tier sound system and maybe trickling down to lower packages. Navigation in the Ford is pretty spot on too. IMHO, skip the Chevy, stick with the Ford. If you had the option to spend a little more and maybe get the 8spd in the Silverado, I would compare the Ford and Chevy and test drive both, but if you're just sticking with the 5.3 and 6spd, for comfort and usability, I would go with the Ford anyday. And if this is strictly a work truck, another viable option is the 5.0 with 10spd, you really can't go wrong with a solid v8 either. Since the 2.7 is still being "tested", if you're doing a lot of towing, I would look into the 5.0 and 10spd instead.

    Appreciate the input.

I should probably clarify by "work truck" it's not being used to haul anything or tow anything other than my personal items when we go to the desert to go shooting. Most of the employees have sedans or SUV. I just chose to go with a truck to be able to toss my gear in the back for range trips. I have never had to tow anything but it's nice to have the option there if I need to.

IMHO I wouldn't touched a GM product unless it was free. My sister in law just got rid of a year old Chevy CUV,cant remember which model, because it burned 1 quart of old for every 1k. Chevy said they are working on issue and kept giving her a runaround. My cousin and another guy I know both have fairly new (3 years old) Silverados that both have oil burning issues. And it makes me angry that as a tax payer I had to subsidize a company that makes sub-par vehicles...and the government took a loss when they sold it (sorry for the political rant but...). I would gladly purchase a Ford F150 if I needed more of a truck then my Taco.
