I put it in S mode this morning.

Yes... that was really fun. You were absolutely right.

Hearing the engine scream and being thrown to the back of my seat.... was very fun. Fords are great.

After having the truck for a week, I think the F150 is light years beyond the Tacoma.

This is in terms of comfort, drivability, space, technology and practicality.

Everyone shyts on the aluminum body, but boy was that tailgate easy to move up and down.

    Most of all...

The F150 has an emotional reponse that the Tacoma does not.

Everyday this week, I got off work, put the drive mode into “S”, and blasted my way home. Feeling the torque of that Coyote V8, combined with that beautiful V8 sound, always put a smile on my face. Sure, I got 10mpg, but I got 100 smiles per gallon, and that’s what really counts.

I always thought the front windows looked weird. After driving the truck for a few days, I get it. The front side windows are shaped that way to give the driver better visibility, but they also made me feel like I was sitting on top of everything... like it was the king.

I was also able to fit my whole family of 5 in the truck with ease.

I have to turn the keys into tomorrow. Now, I am going to have think long and hard about keeping my Tacoma now. I just can’t get over how boring my Tacoma is compared to the F150.

Well, yeah.. apples to oranges. Compare the tacoma to a colorado, or a frontier, or an f150 to a tundra...vehicles in the same class. You're comparing a full size to a mid size. They both have beds, that's where the similarities end for the most part.

Consumers buy midsize vehicles because they don't want the size and fuel economy of a full size (although fuel econ isn't that far off). They design these vehicles to what the market demands. Want power, room, comfort? get a full size. Want pickup capabilities but at a lower price point? Get a mid size. I was between the f150 and the tacoma when I was in the market, well equipped f150s are much more expensive than a well equipped tacoma, and yeah that f150 has a lot of great features, but you pay for it.

I really don't understand this thread at all, You might as well go onto a toyota corolla forum and compare and talk about how fantastic the VW passat is.

I had the new turbo 6 f150 as a rental. It rode better, shifted worlds better, was smoother to drive the seats can actually be moved and adjusted same with the wheel. The 4wd system activates quickly unlike the taco which can engage in 2 feet or 2000 feet. Honestly, short bed to short bed comparison with the 4 door on both, the mpg is the same, the Ford is a few inches longer, 3" taller and about 5-6 " wider. Not as huge a difference. And new comparisons are using the v6 ford and taco because of that. The taco is the same size as a 1st gen tundra. Fwiw. If I needed to move fam, needed space, towing etc. The Ford is a better choice, but I don't and want to be able to actually go off-road some, so the taco is the only option out in a truck that has more ground clearance than a minivan.

I have never seen someone contradict themselves more in the space of a week. Either you're posting while bi-polar or you have a hell of a time with conviction. Either way, best of luck.

Yeah, you need a bigger vehicle with three children, imo.

    Life really is too short.

    Enjoy the new F150.

Nobody else cares what you do, really....

There are quite a few of us who cross-shopped the Tacoma and F150.

If you can stay out of the turbos the 3.5 Ecoboost will meet or beat the fuel economy of a Tacoma.
If the f150 could have been stable with my camping setup I’d be in one, but decided to keep my f350 and get a Tacoma.
The new lighter weight of them actually makes them worse for towing as the tail will wag the dog easier. If you read in the f150 forums almost all say pre 2015 are more stable due to extra weight.
Another phenomenal transmission is the ram 8 speed. Had one in my 2014 and it was awesome and also have one in my wife’s 2018 grand Cherokee v6.
Point is, people usually don’t buy Tacoma’s for their advances in technology. Toyota is the slowest manufacturer to make changes as their sales are solid and reliability is a huge asset.

Honestly, I dont drive too many automatics. I didn’t realize that the different drive modes could make such a huge.

I mostly drove around in normal and eco modes on my first day.

Somebody in this thread try S mode. That made a huge difference.

With that performance and sound, I really don’t give crap about MPG

And if you think Tacoma’s aren’t as far advanced as other trucks go check out the 4Runner. Coworker has a 2018 limited that was upwards of 45k and it doesn’t even have remote start. Non work truck model gm and fords almost all have remote start. The top of the line 4Runner doesn’t and it’s 2018, the technology has been around for years!
Point reiterated that people including myself aren’t buying toyota 4wd’s for their technological advancements. It’s a culture thing. I wanted a Swiss Army knife of pickups so I have the perfect Tacoma for me, right now. I’m not going to say I’ll have it forever, because if I end up getting in to off-roading way more, a wrangler rubicon looks mighty enticing.

I loved my f-150. I feel the interior is hands down better than tacoma, and, for me, no comparing the peppyness of the engines. I just didn’t want a full size truck anymore. I like the size of the Tacoma, and the turning radius!!!!

Why didn't you wait for the Ranger, or did you get a 6MT?

Likewise , I have owned 4 Toyota’s and 4 fords, love them all, no issues with any of them, just want a bigger interior cab next time, maybe just give my taco to the wife and get a f150 since she’s loves the taco..

Didn’t wanna wait. Don’t like the exterior nearly as much as the Tacoma. No other real reasons.

A few people I know have the Tacoma for off-road fun and a F150 for work and family use. Personally after owning several generations the aluminum body is the best overall truck. It’s super low COG makes it far more nimble in my opinion than any other full size since the weight is all in the frame. I will say I’ve never had a major issue or the door freezing issue on either my 2016 or my 2018. The towing complaints are mostly due to the use of the 3.31 gear ratio for fuel economy in most of the lot trucks Ford sells. If you want to tow more than 5,000 lbs around long distance and not be around 3500 rpms with any engine available you need to get the 3.55 or 3.73 which are easy to find if you ask for it and available on almost every trim. I mean on the specification sheet the much lower tow rating with the lowest ratio should be a dead give away that’s not the rear end you want for towing.

The reason the F150 and Tacoma get crossed shopped in Canada is because you can have a F150 XLT XTR 302A with most of the comforts for the same price OTD as a TRD Sport now. Too me that’s just silly given what you here for your money with each and I hope the Ranger ends up a few K cheaper like the Colorado is.

Check out my build thread (Beginning of Money Pit)
When I totaled my 2016 tacoma, I rented an f250 king cab/ 6.7 with 8 foot bed 4x4. Drove that for 2 weeks. I really contemplated buying it. I was getting 23 mpg on highway. More than my tacoma.

But it wont fit on the trails I run, so i decided against it. Nice truck though
