Yeah those look like the Fox/Bds replacement shocks. From what I've heard from Blacktacoma23 the rear shock lengths are too long. As in this case they defiantly are. But, those front co's look odd to me :notsure: They looked pre-loaded pretty heavily to me but, I could be wrong. They almost look like extended 3" co's cranked up to get close to 6" lift. Which that doesnt look close to a full 6" to me.

This is what those co's should look more like...

Looks like what I used to have .

Fox put 16" springs that came preloaded at least 2". That's y I swapped to a 18" heavier spring.
The rear shocks are too long b/c I only have expos not Alcans ect..

Not trying to argue but look at his LCA's they are flat = No preload, preload and exposed threads are not the same thing. If he had 2" of pre load his LCA angles would show it. Lots of shocks do not have a coil all the way to the top.

I was also thinking my LCA's look really flat, the CV angles look like almost nothing. I think the preload is how they came out of the box and the guy who installed just slapped them in there when really they needed to be cranked up a bit.

As for the rears, yes too long for sure. Not a fan of blocks, so if someone wants to point me to a good leaf pack, I'd probably do that.

I was just throwing out the possibility that those CO's aren't even the extended ones for the 6" lift was all. They just seem to be cranked up a lot already to me. I'd kinda be disappointed with them out of the box like that

CVs look good. No worries there except that the LCA is a weak part of the Tacoma if you go hard in the rocks. Leaf packs, we all run something different. I run Deaver, some do Alcan or all pro. This should be one of your first upgrades but it is very important that you figure out which way you want to go. You're like me, you bought into a 6" lift. I went the route of making it better for the least amount I could and it worked out really well. Others here have went 6 only to go SAS or rip it apart and go LT. Some have went to extremes and went really big like even flow and blacktacoma. There are so many ways to go and it all comes down to what you want out if the truck and how deep your pockets go.

A couple of things you can try :

    1. If you can pull you coil overs out and pull the coils off and then reinstall just the shock without the coil you can cycle your suspension to see what is causing your travel limitations. IE: ball joints and / or bump stops. I would be willing to be you are hitting your bump stop. Well before your shock has cycled all of the way. You can remove the OE bump stop and get just a flat low profile bump stop or if you want to be able to still use a larger softer bump stop you can pull that ProComp bump stop perch off and cut an inch or two out of it weld a new bottom plate back on it and then mount what ever bump you want.

    2. Again, with the coil off of the shock - If your coil over is bottoming out before your ball joints have used all of their motion you can have the lower rod ends shortened on you coil overs. The shaft on the shock goes all the way to the end so the cup or perch that the coil sits on can be popped off and the lower rod end cut shorter which then exposes more rod shaft for travel. Sounds difficult but it takes minutes to do.

I have a 2006 Toyota Tacoma with 17 inch MB TKO wheels. I'm looking to install the stage one 6 inch lift system (K5073B I think..) I called pro comp today to confirm the part number of the lift that will work for my truck and the salesman told me that the lift kit is only compatible If you have 18 inch wheels. is there anyone on this site that has installed this lift kit with 17 inch wheels or is the guy telling the truth? Thanks..

Thanks for the reply Scarlett4x4. I figured it out. There's a kit for trucks that don't have the auto stability system which allows install with 17" aftermarket wheels with 4.5" backspacing. These apply to Tacoma's from 2005-2006 (When the system was an option...thank god I don't have it). All Tacoma's from 2007+ have this system standard need a kit compatible with that system which does require a minimum wheel size of 18"(According to the procomp rep). I was so relieved!! I was not looking to spend another $800 for new wheels in addition to tires and the lift kit....

I'm an 08 sport, I don't have anything like that. I would just advise that you be absolutely sure that is the way you want to go before pulling the trigger.

Lots of thanks to you also! Shocks worked out great for me. Went with the toytec springs though and top hat spacers. Would like a little bit more arch for clearance but, the cv angles are perfect..Trade off I guess lol

Hahaha yeah next on the list to do. Really just want sliders so I can use a high lift and the gf bitches about getting in the truck again :p I dont think i'll be rubbing on rocks..The clearance is insane from the rear and center of the truck. That mound was an landing when me and some buddies use to jump pit bikes  So it all soft mountain clay lol No way in hell my 3'' lift would make it over! Then it would have high centered for sure!
