Definitely have to use a filter. I have "friends" who just post status updates about everything I don't care about every second. Click "hide" and it's all good. And likewise, I don't put my junk out there for everyone to see - literally.

I love seeing the idiots though, who put all their personal info on there, employer info, etc, then they comment on some website article or whatever using their FB account, saying things as if they were anonymous. Freedom of speech is great, but I wouldn't put on my corp logo shirt and stand at the corner yelling stupit shit! Plus, I always wonder if they're "friends" with mom, the preacher, the kindergarten teacher!

I never do any apps/games either.

But used as a tool to keep in touch with good friends, get informed of an old friend who is sick/hurt, reunions, etc - it's great.

Social networking is not bad when used in moderation and with purpose. Everything we do in life involves some form of communication. Whether it be hand gestures or constant tweets. We need to communicate.

The stereotype of Facebook however is that people over value the need to communicate mindless dribble and spends too much of their time worrying about issues that are of minimal concern.

TW however, is one of, if not the best source of information that I have come across for information about a my truck. Which in return saves me money, furthers my knowledge of mechanics and gathers ideas on how to improve a hobby.

    end rant

I'm starting my own side business (the reason i got my Tacoma - traded my Harley - Doh!) and i started a facebook page for business. I haven't even done an official "launch" and my first potential customer stumbled across my facebook page. It's a necessary evil.

On another note, there is a generation of kids growing up now who's ENTIRE life will be on the internet. Weird.

I wish it would go back to that. I got on when it was thefacebook.com, when it was made for college students tovre connect with friends. Now everyone and their parents have one and every business links to their Facebook page. The culture has changed and it doesn't look good for the future

What gets me is the people that are so busy taking pics and posting them on facebook while they're at a concert or some event that they don't even pay attention to the concert itself.

But if it weren't for Facebook I would not have gotten in touch with some old friends or family that I rarely see.

    ^^ Exactly^^

I hardly post anything, and I hate how people post like every 15 seconds of their life on the stupid thing.. I don't have ANY personal info (or pictures for that matter) on the site, and use it solely as a one way medium to see what my distant family is doing - (They seem to have a LOT of free time! lol)

And what the He77 is up with all the Farmville Crap!!? Ridiculous!

I refused to sign up for the longest time. Peer pressure, I finally caved. I'd surf it at work, on my phone, play a stupid game. Then, they kept "fixing" it. Then they'd "fix" it some more. And some more, and some more. I realized it was less a way to communicate as a way to say "HEY, LOOK AT ME!!!"

I then deleted (deactivated, they won't let you delete) my account. I have more free time to do the things that need to be done now.

As an IT Manager for a large government agency, I would strongly recommend curbing the Facebook usage or not even have an account. I don't use mine except to look at potential hires. Any stupid juvenile acts that are posted are permenantly available for employers to see. Your opinions are public and might be against your employer's thoughts and values. Even your selection of friends are scrutinized. IMO, In order to get and keep a job, stay away from Facebook.

With all the hype about the Government knowing too much, I can't understand why people post personal stuff out on the Internet for anyone to see.
