Hey everyone. Pretty new to the winch game and read the highlights of this thread. One thing that I am unsure on is what winch hook I want to go with.

I looked at the flatlink and ultrahook from Factor 55 for the low profile in addition to keeping the default warn hook. After educating myself, I seem to favor the "closed system" method as espoused by factor 55 in using a bow shackle for damn near everything.

I guess the question becomes then, what is the point of the hook on the ultrahook? Seems to defy their own preferred methodology in addition to seeming pretty small for clipping strap ends into, etc. Is there something I am missing?

Just the essentials and no extra fluff.
Enough people asked for it and were willing to pay for it. I think it’s overkill and unnecessary. I like the splicer.

    Zombie thread.
I installed a smittybilt winch a few months ago, and did not like the looks of the hook bent over and attached to the shackle on my bumper, so I considered a factor 55 pro-link. However I will need my winch to be pulling animals up to the road and the hook is the way to go there. So, I bit the bullet and ordered the ultrahook. I have to say it looks pretty impressive! Yes it seems overpriced, but that is par for the course these days(especially around these parts). I will post up some pics when its installed.

Its kinda blingy, but it will serve just the purpose I need it to. Plus, I won't have to keep the shackles on the bumper.
