it's a literal matter of time.
keep an eye on your trip odometers, when they reset to 0 after shutting the car off, go buy a new batt pronto.

To me the life of a battery depends on a number of factors. All of the factors together will determine life. Most people will find their battery life or years is pretty constant for them:
    • where you live, temperature plays a large factor
    • miles driven + time sitting at and idle
    • how often start cycle is engaged
    • amount of power draw, after market electronics can pull a lot of power.
    • to me brand and price you paid has little effect
    • other factors that don't come to mind

    Replaced mine after 2.5 years. ( 2021 SR5 ).
Replaced the wife's Subaru after 2.5 years the same day.
    It's a thing.

In June of 2025 I will replace both of them again.
    It's a thing.

The entire month of July was 110~119 in Arizona - we just don't dck-around with waiting to see how much
life we can get out of a battery. Every 2 years. It's a thing.

I agree, and if I was getting some slow starts or had reason to believe the battery was bad I'd replace it. I also carry a jump booster in the truck if it does decide to crap out, and run a scangaugeII so I can always see the voltage and trans temps.

In my professional experience, I’d say the average battery life is ~5 years. Seen them last anywhere from a month to maybe 12 years max. A lot of times they die out on the dealer lots and get jumped or replaced.

Weather and use/deep cycles also play a big role on how long they last

I keep a NOCO jumper thing in my truck, just in case.

I live in NE Florida, but the truck is kept in my garage. My 2000 TJ set outside and I had a Advance Auto Silver Series battery in it. After 7 years it was still going strong, but I replaced it right before we were expecting a hurricane...just in case.

A month after I bought my 2020 Limited the battery was dead. Opened the hood and there was almost zero water in it. Jumped it and took it to the Toyota dealer who tested it and said it was ok. If I didn’t start it in 5-7 days it was weak. Did this for 2 years and finally had it tested again. Said it didn’t test bad so no warranty battery. I finally bought a new 7 year battery. Now I can let it sit for 2 weeks and still get a strong start. Pitiful OEM batteries.

I was having issues with the factory battery leaking from the top and making a big mess. Had lots of white crusty stuff on the battery terminals, cables and the hold down bracket. I kept cleaning it with the NOCo cleaner. Then put those NOCo anti corrosion pads and the anti corrosion spray. Still the thing leaked.
I said something about this to the service advisor at my 15,000 mile service and they agreed that shouldn't happen and replaced it with a 7 year Toyota sure start battery under warranty.

So this morning when I started up my truck for work, it seemed to struggle starting up. Hmmmm. My Tacoma is a 2018 & it appears to be the original battery (bought the truck 2 years ago) so I figured I’d probably be getting a new one soon. I get off work & go to start my truck & nothing…got a jump so I was able to get home. It’s been pretty hot lately so the heat most likely did it in. Bought an AGM like the one I bought for my last Tacoma, had no issues with that one.

Almost 3 yrs and stock. Extreme heat here with mild winters for what it’s worth. I never replace a battery until it’s dead, but I also keep a jump charger with me.

Costco Interstate enters the chat, 3 years no questions asked warranty and they tell you to bring it in for a new one right before the 3 year mark ;)

OEM lasted 5 years on my 2017 and showed a little hesitation before I swapped it out for confidence

Interesting. That's pretty cool. Any chance you know who makes that battery for Costco?

Some fools on here including some clown of a mod harassed me not long ago here for telling people about Costco batt warranty hahaha what dumpster fire this place is.

Btw most car batts are made by the same makers...Delphi, Johnson Controls etc

My Taco is a December 2016 build with a January 2017 purchase. Still on original battery.
Have had two years in Colorado and four in Georgia, so both cold & hot climates.
    It is still going strong.

Until it doesn't. That's when I'll replace it.
Not a fair comparison, but I always got 10 years out of each Honda Civic battery (owned it from '93 until '23).
