Factory E-Locker in 2.7l Manual Transmission

I recently purchased a 2014 Tacoma 2.7L manual transmission truck. Unfortunately, the guy before me ran the rear diff with almost no oil, and it is cooked and needs a new ring and pinion set.

So, this would be an obvious time to put a locker in the rear. My mechanic has located an axle with a factory e-locker, and we are regearing it to match my front end and replacing the seals and bearings.

My question is about the wiring harness. I'm currently trying to hunt one down. Do the plugs exist to tell the computer the locker exists (can I plug the e-locker harness into the 2.7l computer system), and how does the traction control system react (does it play nice) to the locker installed, or do I need to do more work?

Bonus question, anyone have a link to the factory harness?

    Thanks in advance!

FYI. you can not just put an elocker 3rd member into the non elocker housing. You would have to swap the whole axle.

As far as wiring, probably easiest to come up with a switch rather than use a factory harness

Thanks! We found an axle to do a swap, so we are replacing everything. It needs to be regeared to match the front end. I'm just not sure if there is communication between the traction control system and e-locker so the truck knows when the locker is turned on or if it matters or not.

Well, when I turn on my locker it turns the traction controls off and disables the abs system.
So yes I would think it talks to the computer.
Now weather or not you have the right brain to just plug a "harness" into and hopefully plug and play is a good question. I would think that the brain is different from a 4 cyl to a 6 cyl.
But then again it could all be just relays

So I’ve done this exact same thing. I gave my cousin (manual 2.7L 4x4 like you) my entire busted factory elocker axle and front diff in exchange for his 4.10 geared front diff and entire rear axle. I simply added a locker and installed everything in my V6 truck. Works great with my 285 tires. He was re-gearing to 4.88 anyway so he didn’t care that my R&P were broken. On the 4banger, nothing is pre-wired like it would be on the V6 models, so we couldn’t just swap 4WD ECUs and plug in a switch into the dash for the locker. We built a standalone harness with the front range parts which is preferable because that way he has full control over when to engage the locker (just don’t be stupid and engage at speed or wheel spin!!). We also tapped a wire in the instrument cluster harness (I think it was yellow/blue) which now gets ground when the locker is activated so the dash light comes on just like in factory mode - sans the blinking from the limit switches until the shift fork is all the way over. It’s no problem for traction control whatsoever. It actually works less since the locker eliminates most wheel slip, and we added an ABS kill switch for Baja mode (though unplugging a front sensor or pulling fuses would have done the same, just not on the fly)

This is some great info! I went through Toyota's site and saw that they have an ECU for every configuration of Tacoma. I figured I'm making some kind of Frankenstein truck. Something between a TRD pro and base four-banger.
