I opened a case for "warranty assistance". Took the truck to Toyota. Paid $143 to have them confirm what we already know. Toyota called today and said the repair WOULD be covered by Toyota. Now I need to make an appointment and take it back. Not sure if they will cover the diagnosis too but I'll find out.

    ORIGINAL COMMUNICATION -
Customer By CSS Web (G. Overton)(10/12/2019 12:12 PM)
My 2016 Tacoma TRD Off Road Driver's side seat heater has stopped working. The truck has 47K miles. A little research has revealed that this seems to be an issue and there is a TSB regarding the problem. T-SB-0130-18 dated Oct 23 2018. Please advise if this problem is something that Toyota will help me with. I've owned scores of Toyota trucks and I'm a bit disappointed that I'm having this issue 3 years in. It appear the the Heated seat circuit boards are failing in a number of trucks. Potential fire hazard here.

Considering that your speedometer is 3mph slow, your are only really 1000 miles out of warranty.

For people out of warranty and need to pay for this fix.

I found the 87510-04050 part which replaces 87501-0C020 online for $160.00 USD. You can at your option buy 82167-04030 wiring harness for $100 to get the new plug or fix the plug yourself for around $20. Going to ship this to Canada. While I am bummed about the cost, I would rather have the heated seat working with the new replacement parts that will not cause a fire.

As I understand you only need 87510-04050. I went to the dealer and had it installed. They said I only needed 87510-04050 and not 82167-04030. I am sorry if that does not answer your question. I didn't install it myself so am unsure.

so has anyone bought parts and fixed this themselves?

is 87510-04050 the whole assembly that includes the heater amp? seems shitty we can't just buy the amp and save some money

also, does anyone know what the connect is so i can get a new one? mine is all fried and i don't want to plug a new amp into it

i was thinking of seeing if i can find one in a junkyard and just cut it out with the connector so i can just hook up the wires do mine and be done

When mine was replaced the also replaced the heating element under the fabric. They said that it was the cause of the shorted amp.

Add me to the list. Burnt green wire at connector.

Mine failed last week. Couldn't order just the amp as the amp and connector were melted together. Honestly I'm ok that they replaced the heater element and amp together. It was replaced under goodwill warranty with a small out of pocket expense on my part. Better than paying for the entire thing. Failure occurred 1 week and less than 16000kms outside warranty period.

So on my commute this morning in my 2017 TRDOR, I had the heated seat on as I usually do. As I was nearing the end of my hour long trip, I began detecting what I can only describe as a slight electronic burning smell. It's not something I remember ever smelling before. I immediately thought of the seat heater module, having peeked in on this thread a few times. The heater still seemed to be working okay at the moment.

My question - to anyone who has had this plug fry on them, were you able to smell it in the cabin or did the seat just stop heating up randomly?

Update - apparently this is covered under my platinum extended warranty.

Are we actually accepting they are blaming the heating element? Why would it short out there and not fry the wiring elements that actually get hot

That would throw a wrench in my plan of getting a new amp from a junkyard and cutting it out with the connector on it....

The replacement amp in mine was an updated part from the 18/19 trucks. Hopefully this fixes the issue?

87510-04050 part replaces 87501-0C020. That is all you need for the failures you guys are experiencing. I noticed however my seat does not get anywhere near as hot as before. Still works great though. Maybe that is intentional.

That is what I bought from the dealer. Dealer charged 1.5 hours labor which I thought was not unreasonable. My truck is out of warranty. 2016 w/ 150,000kms.
