Does anyone have a tri-fold factory installed Toyota tonneau cover, and do you have a problem with it leaking, even after making sure the seal is good? I need to hear from you. I believe that mine is defective and can’t get the dealer to do anything about it. I’m not talking about a little leak here or there, but one where yo can’t keep anything in the bed without worrying about it getting ruined.

Mine has always leaked as well. It's not crazy wet, but it does leak. Doesn't matter if I'm driving in the rain, washing it by hand or just sitting out in the rain - still leaks a bit.

I probably would have done something else had I known this from the start.

Same here, most of the leaking is the tailgate. I will resolve that with tailgate seal. Also stuffed foam seal at head rail 1/8" gap there. Never had a tonneau cover that didn't leak. Roll-n-lock, and Access they both did. The other place it leaks is under bed rail caps in touchless car wash. Will remove and seal under them also.

All tonneau covers leak! If yours doesn't you are very lucky!

Thanks for the replies. I’m very frustrated. I’ve always had ARE covers, and they never leaked. Only leaking was from the actual truck areas that weren’t closed. With so many people having issues, why won’t Toyota do something about it?

My friends bed gets soaked. Even when I had a bakflip mx4 899$ one my bed got soaked. You need a cap that go’s over rails or a camper shell/cap. My softopper is pretty water tight.

They decided a disclaimer in the manual was easier.

I have a truxedo lo pro lq that doesn’t leak, but I had to seal the front corners up and a tailgate seal.

That’s terrible. Like “coffee is hot”. Don’t burn yourself. How about just stop making them or fixing them? I guess my A.R.E. Lids always worked (had three on three different Tacoma’s), was because they were single piece, over the rail. If Toyota couldn’t figure out how to do it right, they shouldn’t have done it at all.

I have a factory cover and it leaked around the tailgate. I got a kit for the tailgate and no leaks at all, not even when I washed it. Never had any leaks up in the front of the bed. Mine is a 2018 and had it about a month.

I have the factory OEM tri-fold cover and mine barely leaks. I ended up getting caught in some gnarly rain a few weeks ago -I'm taking torrential downpour and I checked the bed after the fact and it was wet in one spot at the front on the wall of the bed, and a few tiny left over "runs" of water from the corner on one side, but with the amount of water I went through I was very impressed with how well it held up! I know somewhere it says that the cover is water resistant, not proof, so you will get some moisture back there, but mine has impressed me so far. Pro tip, close your tailgate before you close the cover and make sure it clicks on both sides so you get a good seal.

It doesn't rain much here and it lives in the garage so I've never noticed any water. But it does get dusty as hell under there so obviously not weathertight. I don't put anything under it that water or dust will harm. It's mostly to keep passer-bys from swiping my stuff.

Mine leaks as well. I read that someone had taken their truck to the dealer and had it adjusted and it stopped leaking. They didn’t have any instructions since the dealer did the work but I would be curious on how it can be done. Anyone had the dealer fix it or do most people get the “This is Normal” from the dealer?

You should get inside the bed and have someone go around the edges with a flashlight. You'll see the areas where light is leaking through and that is where you seal it instead of blindly putting a seal .
Hardware stores have ac seals in 1/4, 1/2 rolls with adhesives on one end.
I did the same and found 2 small spots at front. No water leak after and I've been washing the truck every week.

Regarding tonneau covers, I did a LOT of research on hard tri folds and went with the Leer X2T. Awesome cover. What won me over is the Leer sits SLIGHTLY over the bed rails and has a rubber seal all around. The Bakflip track sits below the rails and channels water through 2 hose. The Leer requires no cutting larger holes or any cutting. Little pricey but well worth it. Awesome frickin cover.
