Rough country 6" lift, 14" six piston Big Brake kit with drilled and slotted rotors with rear drum to disc conversion with parking brakes, 35x 12.50 x 22 mud terrain tires & Maverick 22" wheels, Magnuson Supercharger, AMP folding steps, Flowmaster American Thunder dual exhaust stainless steel with series 50 muffler cat back system with shorty headers. Alpha Rex projector head lights with custom tail lights, Buckstop front bumper with Smittybilt 9500LB winch, snugtop canopy, fog lights in front and rear back up leds, aftermarket grill, yellow top battery, volant cold air intake system, bully dog chip, JVC double din stereo with JVL speakers, weather tech floor mats front and rear, custom tow mirrors, Vengence rear bumper custom seat covers, remote start, drone mobile alarm gps system.
I have a 2010 Tacoma that has a 6" Rough Country lift and recently took into the local Toyota dealership and had the fan motor harness replaced they informed me that the truck was additionally eligible for the factory leaf spring recall replacement so I went with it, after picking it up I noticed the rear was lower than the front by 2" now the my 35's are touching against one of the rear mud flaps and the drivers side has 3/4" of clearance.

OK folks I need advice which would be better to bring this back to level, add airbags or add a larger spacer block between the axle and shackles or replace the factory springs with springs with more arch I also need this taco to tow a trailer with about 300lbs.of tounge weight.

I purchased this truck loaded with performance mods six months ago and could not tell if the existing leaf springs where also part of the upgrade now the factory replacements are flatter and more flexible the ones before were stiffer I think I screwed up but how the heck was I to know that those were not factory springs?

ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED... THX!!

I think the RC 6" lift comes with lift blocks or a leaf pack? or a combo of both.
Did you have lift blocks in the back? between the axle housing and leaf pack? are they still present?

Either get your old leaf springs back from the dealer or buy another lift pack....

For starters the stock springs are crap. Chances are the truck had blocks in it and when they replaced them the u bolts weren't long enough so they left the blocks out. Go to an off-road shop and have them hook you up with a proper leaf pack to get the lift you desire. You could do air bags but to lift the truck 2 inches you would have quite a bit of air in them and your truck would ride like you had no rear suspension.

My lift uses an add a leaf (+2”) plus a 4” block. When they replaced your springs they probably didn’t put the add a leafs back on the new springs. Hopefully they still have your old ones…I don’t fully know whether rough country is the same as others but I believe this is the solution to your problem. A taller block May throw off some driveline geometry

Hi,I was pondering if the dealer can’t give the add a leafs back due unkown reasons then I will need to purchase a whole new rough country 6” lift kit then pay again to have it it redone. I should of been on top of this just wasn't thinking it through. I plan on arriving at their service center first thing in the Monday morning!

Idiotic shop. We can only recall oem springs with specific standards.

Lifted trucks with blocks or airbags we charge additional labor but we keep it reasonable.

Honestly, getting custom leaf springs that big and quick is difficult. Do what most brodozer lifts do.

Add a leaf, and 2" block.

    https://www.headstrongoffroad.com/store/p1239/HS_1.5"_lift_3_leaf_AAL_with_u-bolts_(PAIR)_-_HS-TOY516-3AL.html

    https://www.headstrongoffroad.com/store/p103/Maxtrac_Lift_Blocks_(1"_-_4"_Blocks)_-_05__Tacoma_(PAIR).html

With 6" lifts you want 4" in the rear, so a 1.5 AAL and a 2.5 block

Or AAL and 1" block. for 2.5" to return to where you were before.

No…you shouldn’t have to do anything but get the rear leafs back to where they were. They should have communicated with you when they did the work but may not have noticed that you had an add a leaf. Giving them a huge benefit of doubt. If they don’t…I would think that the worst case scenario is either buying new add a leafs or taking the opportunity to get some new medium duty leafs installed. Sorry hopefully they will be willing to take care of the labor or at least some of it. Good luck

I don't think just the AAL will be enough, do you have the block as well? usually they are used in tandem.

Yes, the Rough Country 2 1/2” lift blocks where left but to add more frustration they were re-installed by the Toyota tech backwards he was thinking that they were installed incorrectly to begin with and currently pushing the angle of the rear axle back leaving my new MT 35’s almost touching the mud flaps.
Hoping that the new triple AAL’s by Headstrong Off Road plus the 2 1/2” lift blocks will get her back to where it was at like you previously recommended.
Very depressing and frustrating but keeping it professional.

    Update 09/04/23
I pulled the trigger on the Deaver’s stage lll 9 leaf pack and they just arrived. I had Jeff at Deaver spring design this set for six inch lift without lift blocks rated for 1000 lbs. Thinking on getting the Accutune offroad Ubolt flip kit, www.accutuneoffroad.com 05+Toyota Tacoma will I need it or just stay with the factory bump kit as I stay off the rocks mainly trail running in the PNW?

Call Accutune and let them tell you what you need for bumps. You def don’t want to top out the shocks and the bumps will prevent that.

How much weight are you tugging around to get such a leaf pack up to 1000lbs? I reread but don’t think you mentioned constant weight. I’m sure Deaver designed them to your needs though.

Def the right way to go though instead of blocks and AAL’s.

Everyday load is 945lbs. it includes canopy, steel bumper, Decked bed drawer system loaded with recovery gear, personal supplies and a 150lb. spare tire surprisingly how it all adds up and occasionally tow a 6800 lbs. equipment cargo trailer with 450 lbs. of tongue weight for my second vehicle back up when my work truck is down. I spoke with Jeff at Deaver's he said it did not need custom bump stops due to it's design just use the factory ones. I will keep an eye on their performance when up in the mountains trail running and provide a update later this month.
