Looks like it's for a 4cylinder since it has the RZ bell housing, although that could be swapped.
What year was this ordered for? Not all A340F transmissions for tacomas are the same. 03-04 don't have a kick down cable.

Correct; OP needs to specify for those mating to the right engine/transfer case combo

V6 case is 23 spline input

I4 case is 26 spline input

Price of $1,300.00 was clearly posted. Parts dept stated it will fit 96 -2000, 4 cylinder & a 6 cylinder if you swap the bell housing

It is the correct fitment for any 3RZ engine from 96-2000 for sure. Confirmed by a Toyota Parts dept manager.

Is this true for just the 6 cylinder? My local Toyota Parts Manager confirmed it fit all 1996-2002, 4 cylinder 3RZ 4x4 Models. Verify with your local dealer with the part #

4 cylinder & 6 cylinder models shared the same transfer case depending auto diff, ABS, locking rear diff etc, the possible mating of this transmission to a 6 cylinder motor is questionable and has been done and posted on this forum. the swapping of the bell housing's (very easy) was all that was required.

    4 run, 2 don't
2003 and 2004 is drive by wire

No one is saying you can't use your transmission; it's more about finding the direct bolt on compatibility as someone may be doing a 4x4 swap into their Prerunner.

Yes it is easy to change a few parts, such as bell housing, etc. but again it helps to know exactly what someone is buying.

I agree but I just don't know all of the possibilities of fitment, I would hope someone can chime in and confirm. i just don't know what it will fit other than the 96-2000 4x4 3RZ motor and selling it as such. My info is only as good as what the Toyota parts dept provided me. Thanks and thanks to all who can provide the possibilities of fitment besides fitting the 1996-2000 4x4 3RZ models.

It is basically brand new, not just rebuilt and someone is going to get a really good deal. I kept it as a spare but I know i will never need it because I maintain my current trans with complete flushes every 15,000 miles and it runs like the day I purchased my 97 off the dealers lot.

I believe you are correct that it will fit 95-02 4x4 3RZ directly. I’m not sure about the 5VZ compatability since someone mentioned the output shaft splines. I guess if you swapped the bell housing and used a 3RZ transfer case it would work without question on a 95-02 4x4 5VZ.

There is a possibility that wiring connectors changed at some point in there, but that would just take swapping some wires around to fix. The 03-04 drive by wire things is much harder to change.

edit: according to a few online parts searches, it fits 97-00 4x4 3RZ. The parts guy that told you it fit 96-04 was just being lazy.

This is a solid deal, that is cheaper than a used trans from a junk yard and they require a core exchange. Wish I could help out with the fitment questions. I would think you could probably get this to fit through 02 just swap the bell housing for the VZ if need be. Also was not aware of the different transfer case in the RZ.

I would assume 26, but will have to pull it out to count and confirm, won't be able to do this until monday
