I have an 09 4x4 TRD with towing package and the book show a factory service connector for the brake controller under the dash on the left side. Upon inspection, there is a small black box (for lack of a better description) screwed to the dash with a small harness leading back up under the dash. Is this it? If so, what do you do with it???

    Thanks

You shouldve gotten a couple extra harnesses when you tood delievery of the truck. Im assume you need to plug the proper harness in and then attach it to your brake controler. Kinda like wiring in an aftermarket radio. Im just guessing here but i took a look at that to and thats what i could come up with

No extra harnesses, so I guess I'll have to go bash the dealer.

    Thanks

My dealer knows nothing about the service connector, and in fact I spent about 20 minutes with a mechanic trying to find it and he had to refer to my owners manual to see that there was supposed to be one!

When I got home, I pulled the kick panel and still cannot find the connector. Anyone have any ideas???

Geez, finally found it, but there is not enough lead to get the damn thing down where you can work on it.

I had the dealer agree to move my controller from Tundra to Taco when I traded up. They had it all day then called and said it would need all new wiring ran cause it wasnt set up for towing with trailer brakes. What is the round plug for then? Why does my window sticker say towing pack? I told them I was coming to get it, when I got there they had two techs under the dask and about four guys standing around scratching their heads. They finally found it and got it installed, I only asked them to do it because I remembered what a bitch it was to find on the Tundra.

Yeah, I may just take it to a local trailer shop and let them fight with it.

So are you trying to install a brake control module like this one?
The factory plug is a white plug with wires coming out of it. It should have come with the truck and it should have been in the glove compartment. That was where mine was at inside of a bag with instructions of how to hook it up. It connects on the driver side after you take the side kick panel off. There is a plug in up under the dash that the white harness plugs into. Then you wire up the controller you have to the wires of the white plug in. I can get you more pictures later as I have not taken any of up under the dash.

In my 06 it's behind the drivers kick panel. I can't imagine them redoing the harness and moving it. I could be wrong though. Wouldn't be the first time...

The white vehicle connector is behind the drivers kick panel. Mine was taped to another wiring harness; seemed impossible to get to. Used a long screwdriver to work the tape loose and then needle nose pliers to pull the connector out a few inches. Then connected the cable that came with my controller to it. E-trailer has cables that mate to the vehicle, and then to the controller of your choice.

I am installing a Prodigy 2 brake controller. I found my harness in my glove box. I figured out which wires go to what wires on the controller. I have an extra wire on the factory harness. It is green and it says : headlamp switch to vehicle trail lamps. 1. What the heck is this for? 2. Do I need to connect it to anything and if so, then what? 3. Why would my headlight witch be connected to the brake controller? They run through the 7 pin connector that I hook the travel trailer to my truck with.

I am headed camping in the mountains this weekend and need it working. Thanks for any help.
