I had my young nephew decide that my truck stereo must have been a jukebox and drop a couple coins in the CD player. Needless to say the stereo doesn't work now. I want to replace it with a factory deck but my local junk yard doesn't have the same serial number of stereo. My question is does it matter which stereo goes in? Or are they all compatible?

the same type radio should work just fine

the thing you need to check is whether or not you have a truck with JBL from the factory or not

the other thing you might try is take your stock radio out and have a radio repair shop take the change out and test it ... might be just fine

Just buy a aftermarket Navigation/stereo. They're reasonably priced and should fit right in

Is it just the CD player, or the whole radio that doesn't work? Had the coins been removed??

Perfect excuse to justify an aftermarket stereo that will add features and improve sound quality...and it would be probably be the cheaper route too if you end up needing to buy one from the dealer. They are easy to install, and you can keep all of your steering wheel controls. If you don't want to do that, take it to a car audio shop and see if they can repair it or order new parts for it.

I remember hearing somewhere that the 2005-2008 head units are slightly different from the 2009-2011, due to the addition of the aux plug in the lower console. I briefly looked into swapping a 2009+ into my 2005 for the addition of the aux and fitment, but decided to do aftermarket in the end.

Not sure if this is 100% true, so hopefully someone can answer for sure?

If you go aftermarket, you can add bluetooth. That right there would be enough for me to start looking. I prefer Pioneer but there are many good options. I'm keeping stock on mine but as it's a 15, I have bluetooth standard.
