I am going to be using a factory switch to do the ABS disable mod, however I need to know which switches stay latched, and if any are just momentary switches.

Right now I plan to use the "VSC off" switch. Since my truck doesn't have VSC i can't just pull a switch out to test if it's exactly what i need. So if anybody can confirm that the VSC off switch stays latched when pressed that would be a great help. Thanks.

Damn, i was afraid it would probably be momentary. Thanks for the help.

My 2006 doesn't have a spot for those switches. thank you though. I'm specifically looking for one that will fit in the blanks to left of the steering column since i have plenty of openings there.

I had thought about just using a fog switch, but kind of wanted something different. might have to go that route though. Also was thinking of the VSC switch because i have the harness in place already on the back side of the blank, so i could just chop off the connecter and not have to buy one.

Slight modification of the opening and this OEM fog light switch works great.

Contact Homer Taco, he makes them. Or you could do it yourself if so inclined.

So if the VSC factory switch is momentry, does that mean it won't work for the VSC disable mod? I was thinking of buying a factory switch and using it for the mod as well.

I don't have VSC so I'm not familiar with the VSC disable mod. If it requires the switch to be latched then no it won't work. However... I ended up buying a factory switch that i thought would be latching, and it ended up being momentary. on the factory switches any of them can be made to be momentary or latching, the only difference is 2 very small pieces of wire/metal. it was a bit of a pain in the ass, but i converted my momentary switch into a latching switch.

So I purchased a factory traction control switch, can you give me details on how you were able to covert it from momentry to latching? I haven't tried to pull it apart yet, but I know this will be my first step. Thanks, Don.

I would have recommended going with a switch that was already latching. If you are dead set on using that one though, I will try to explain it, and hopefully i still have the pics i took of the switch. give me a little time to respond about that because I'm currently at work.

Also, You will definitely have to tear the switch apart and look at it to understand what im talking about. If you have a fog switch maybe pull that one apart too so you can see the differences.

Sorry for taking a bit to respond, I will try to give you some insight on what to do.

So to get the switch apart just use a small screwdriver and pry out the small rectangular back part. it will slide out and then you will see what i have pictured
    20130420_171735.jpg

    20130420_171747.jpg

These pics are of a fog light switch, so this is how a fully functional latching switch will look. There are only 3 small differences between the switches that latch and the ones that are momentary.

First is where the blue arrow is pointing in the first pic (should be there, it was a while ago). On a momentary switch there is a white plastic plug thing. It keeps the switch from being pressed completely down, so that will need to be removed. it literally just pops out if you use a pick or screwdriver.

Next are the 2 small metal pieces. This is what does the actual latching. If you look at the piece of the switch that you removed earlier (sorry don't have a pic of it) you can see the actual track that this metal piece slides into. as you push the button it moves in the track and eventually gets stuck by design which keeps the switch depressed. when you push it again, it moves further and comes back out. The tricky part about doing this is that you need to make these metal pieces... I believe i used a single staple, or possibly unwound a small spring i had and used that. either way you can see it is very small diameter metal. The one with the bends also has to be pretty precise. if it isn't the right shape then it won't work. it took me a few tries to get it right
    20130420_171909.jpg

So the hardest part is getting that angled piece perfect. if it's not, you will know because it won't feel smooth and in my case it would latch, but then get stuck and not unlatch, so you have to take some time to get it right. I don't know how much sense this makes to you right now, but it will help to take apart one of your other latching switches so you can make sense of it. Also makes it way easier to try and duplicate those small pieces. Let me know if you have any other questions and i will do my best to answer them. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for all the info and the time to post the pictures and write this up. I will try to work on this over the weekend. I will let you know how it worked. Looks like it might take a couple of tries to get it right. I will keep you posted. Thanks again.
