Just curious if anyone else has been told the same thing. My dad bought a 17 with a tonneau cover, in fact that's why he bought the particular truck, he wanted the tonneau cover. It hasn't been all that impressive and after one winter it's starting to crack in multiple places. My brother took it into the dealership today and they called and said that it's not a warrantable item. What?? It's a factory installed Toyota accessory!! I'm going to do some more digging, and hopefully they're wrong, but was hoping to hear if anyone else has had any issues like this.

I'll get pics later, I'm in California and the trucks in Idaho. Just got a call from my brother telling me he was fighting with the dealership. I've seen the cracks before when I was home about a month ago. I haven't been impressed with the durability of the cover thus far.

It's not factory installed. It was dealer installed. And they probably don't want to cover it because they suspect physical or environmental damage to the cover.

They didn't say they didn't want to, they said it wasn't an item covered under warranty.

Mine was factory installed.. according to the window sticker. As far as I know they are all factory installed or installed at the distributor.. Gulf States Toyota in my case.

Should have it's own warranty from the tonneau manufacturer. But they'll probably say UV damage isn't covered, it will be very nearly impossible to prove otherwise. I'm sorry but me thinks SOL applies.:notsure:

Read the warranty paperwork. Everything for everything should be spelled out there.

I don't know if it is or isn't covered, or to what extent (limited?), just saying it should be in writing.

Op, put the truck in reverse and have it ram into a tree. Call Toyota and tell them brake pedal got stuck. Then follow up with a complaint to the NHTSA. All problems solved.

OK so I made an account just to answer this question but today I had my 2017 Tacoma TRD OFFROAD 4x4 serviced at Longo Toyota in CA and I asked the guy if my cover was under warranty because a piece of it broke off when I was folding it. After my service was done I was told that it's under warranty. For how long? I don't know but they ordered the part that broke off and it will be replaced when I bring her back in on Monday.

Mine was part of an equipment group (tech/premium) on my 18 OR, so I didn't have a choice in the matter. It better be warrantied!

This was in El Monte California. Yeah its covered under warranty. Again I didnt ask for how long but dont remove the scan bar that is located when you fold the first section up. I think they used that to link it with my truck to see if it was installed by them. Anyways Im sure it will work at any official dealership since i didnt buy mine at Longo Toyota.
