Reread what I wrote. I stated issues with "the fact that they did not want or need it because of other plans for the pickup bed?"

Don't dick post. Everyone has their opinion. I despise soft roll-up tonneau covers too.
You like it. Others don't. What you should take from this thread is, when you get a loaded vehicle, the factory cover most likely will come with it.
I wanted no cover and the highest trim I could get with no cover was a TRD OR base. No sunroof, no led lights, no tech packages. Anything more and the factory cover came with it.

Yes, and I also have my opinion. So heed your own advice.

Hmmm, not sure whether some are port installed or factory installed, my window sticker shows the cover as a factory option:

I like my factory tri fold. When I bought a 2018 a few years ago it came with one, so when I bought my 22 I tried to avoid that dealer charge of like $900 and bought one used. Absolutely hate how easy they fade! It turns almost a greenish color which matches the lunar rock a little so I can deal with it. I use solution finish black trim restore which works great for a few months, but also leaves a oily streak down the side of the truck if the cover gets wet so I guess you can’t really win lol

Maybe it depends where you drive, or the yearly climate, but here in New England those rollups can be more trouble than worth having.

Extang Trifecta 2.0, tri-fold. I have had many, Extang guarantees their tonneaus. Don't like any wrinkles, call 'em up, they will exchange, or just tell you to keep it, send you another. Just my opinion, does not mean I am right.
The bottom picture is a 2.0, only different material.

I will take a soft roll up over all other designs. I hate the trifolds and hard covers.

They just die after a while.
And they're cheaply made to begin with.

All in all it's a waste of cash cause after replacing 2 you coulda bought a real tonneau cover.

Also if you keep valuable tools etc in the bed, vinyl covers are beyond useless

I will give you that on valuables in the bed. Cheaply made depends on what you get. I had an Extang on my Ranger that I had for the whole time I owned it and that was 17 years without any issues. There are a couple out there that are warrantied for life 100%. I want to roll up in seconds and have full use of the bed then quickly and easily unroll again and ready to go. Guess it depends how you use it and how I use it only a roll up works well.

The factory cover on my new to me 2019 is faded, and the paint has come off the aluminum strip between the first and second cover. What are you guys treating these with to help stop the fade?

From what I have read on here there are many Tacoma owners that want the OEM tonneau after their purchase, but it is not sold separately. Perhaps you can make a deal with someone prior to delivery and swap the side rails with the purchaser. It is easy to do and maybe you can cut your losses to a few hundred dollars or even sell for full price since it is brand new. Personally, I really love the OEM cover and transferred it from my totaled 2021 DCSB TRDOR to my new 2023 TRD Pro.

I've seen those roll up covers delaminate, or get torn up by the nasty weather we get here in New England. I really don't know how well they were taken care of by their owners to be honest. I can tell you will periodic care my oem tri-fold cover still appears like new after 3 years on the truck. It sits outside in all sorts of weather 24/7.

The dealer I got my tacoma from provided my a bottle of wolfsteins tonneau cover protectant to get me started. I was told how to care for the cover which I'm now guessing some never were.
