factory turn signals into fog lights?

so today i got to thinking, if i relocated the turn signal bulb into the side light, could i potentially install the same type bulb in the turn signal housings and just run my own wiring and switch?

is the lens type useable for a fog or will it be too dispersed? or will the bulb type just not bright enough to be worth it? i have plenty of time on my hands and it seems like it would be a relatively inexpensive project, maybe $25bucks as i have the wire and switches already.
