Bought a 2010 Tacoma in late November. It has no problems and I just hit 23K on the way to work this morning. Bought it from a Jaquar dealership and got an extended warranty through them that lasts 3 years. It includes free oil changes(synthetic)/tire rotations/alignment/transmission flush, etc. along with a free rental while work is done(couldn't pass that up). This is all done by the Jaquar shop and luckily the main tech was/still may be Toyota cerfified.

As of now if anything goes wrong with the truck its on Toyota since its still under factory warranty until 24k I believe. My question is for all the brand new truck owners. Did you come across any issues that were common with 2nd generation trucks(preferably 2010 owners) that I be aware about? I would much rather have an excuse to take it to Toyota and have them check out any issues if there is any with my truck while still under warranty. Think I could get some new bed bolts since they are showing signs of rust....stuff like that.

    Thanks

You should be under warranty until 36,000 miles.

I may be wrong but from how I understood it, I believe that your warranty from the factory is 36k miles and 3 years from the original 'in service' date. My truck is a 2010 bought in May 2011 and my warranty started in May of 2011 as I am the first owner of this truck.

The "extended warranty" that I was offered was a 7 year warranty. NOT extended 7 years beyond the in service date but 7 years starting along with the in service date. In other words, the warranty will go four years beyond the original factory warranty. I declined it because I can buy the warranty any time during the original factory warranty. I plan to buy it before the 3 years/36k.

That being said, I would go ahead and get all of the TSBs done. I've had no warranty issues other than having them evaluate any possible rust on the frame so that when and if the time comes for a any possible frame rust problem on the year then it is documented.

In regards to the Jaguar tech and his relationship with Toyota, please try to meet him and become familiar with him. It's always nice to know who will be dealing with your vehicle as well as finding out when his latest Toyota Certification/training was. From what I was told by my friend who is a tech with Lexus, is that their education is ongoing and they are always kept up with the latest. Keep in mind that although he may have been certified with Toyota, his relationship with them is severed since he no longer is employed by them and Toyota may not warranty his work.

I have a 2010 Off Road 4WD DC (bought new in Dec. 2009).

The full bumper to bumper warranty is 3 years/ 36,000 miles. The drivetrain warranty is good for 60,000 miles...

My truck had a tiny tranny drip when it was brand new... fixed... and nothing else since... Nothing. My third Tacoma and the best one yet (my 2001 was also free of any problems for 90,000 miles when I had the water pump replaced when the timing belt was changed).

I have about 34,000 miles on it now and it is just over 2 years old.

The only issues I've had with my 2010 are the rear leafs, clicking blower motor and melting DTRL lenses - all fixed for free (TSBs). Actually the biggest problem is my inability to stop moding it.

What's different with the new headlamps? Anything cosmetic or just more durable plastic inside?

I have no idea. The only difference I can see is that the DTRL lens is clear instead of that slightly yellowish tint.

The 2010 has darkened lenses and they seem to not fog up... mine still are fine. Also, not all rear leafs are still bad... My 2005 had bad leafs I had to fix with adding Ride Rite air bags, but my 2010 3 pack never bottoms-out with same heavy loads.

I keep going out to check to see when mine are going to melt. No sign of it at all. But then I realized that I don't have DTRL. :( Oh well. One less thing to break. :)
