    They do look refinished.

Typically happens with wheels. People don’t clean them by hand with the proper products to remove embedded brake dust and salt and the finish goes to crap. Then they get refinished and get messed up faster than they did before. A cycle is born.

I agree with @Thebubble for your options BUT the only real fix is new wheels. That finish will have problems no matter what (likely).

I personally would just leave it and start saving for new wheels. I think Plasti dip looks tacky. Paint is time and effort for just a bandaid with no resolution.

Anyon have success with a specialty company that bead blasts and powdercoates the factory silver and then bakes on a clear coat? They quoted @100 a wheel which wasn’t bad, I guess you have to really want to keep that factory wheel for that money.

I almost had this done to my wheels, which won’t be on till next week. I knew the exact wheel I wanted and have for years. Finally came up on Craigslist about an hour away so I went and got them. They indeed have been refinished by someone else.

    Factory 1st Gen Tundra/Sequoia 16” 5-spoke rims.

Replacing everything worn, broken, and rusted.
I was gonna suggest that. I bought some used ones off Craigslist with fresh tires already mounted.

Congrats OP, you have the "Special Corrosion Edition" Sport Wheels.
In 2006-2007 there was a batch of 17in rims that were not powdercoated correctly at the factory and after a few years (right after the warranty expires) they start to corrode.
Your set has already been painted once but the painter didn't remove the old finish so it bubbled up again.
I bought a set of 4Runner rims on Craigslist when my rims got too crappy looking.

Just wire wheel and paint them. Cheap. Takes alittle time to do them right.

Awesome information thanks. I figured they had to be factory since they look identical to the other tacos I've seen and the pics in the tire thread here. Figured it was a shit refurb job or something.

Just letting it go for now until I get new shoes and wheels.
