Hi all. I'm wanting to match the factory tint on my 2006 Tacoma 4WD TRD Sport ACLB on the door windows. Currently, the front doors have no tint, and the rear window and rear doors have something darker. Does anyone know what level of tint is factory?

    Thanks, in advance!

I believe it's 25%, but a tint shop can match it if you make an appointment

I do all the work myself... so just wanting to know for reference. I don't like paying someone to do the work if I can do it. Thanks for the reply. ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ indeed!

    Clazzio seat covers,
Darker than ... but not too much ... 35% ... which is on top of the "slightly" tinted fronts.

Yeah, I know "Factory tinted" includes the fronts that don't look tinted at all. There's some degree of tint even in those. If you think it's 35%, I'll start there and see if it's a good match. I appreciate the input.

Were the rears already tinted, and then you tried to match?

I've got 35% and I like it. I can still see at night and it's a close match to factory rears. Maybe a tad lighter but better than being darker in the front windows which wouldn't look right imo.

Just had 20% put on my fronts. Rear had factory. The tint shop told me the rears were about 32%. The 20% they put on is almost perfect but just a hair darker than the rears.

20% is the closest to a OEM smoked privacy glass match. This is pretty consistent across all manufacturers. The difference will be in the color and light through the windshield will make the front windows appear lighter in different conditions.

the rear is 20% but if you put a true 20% over your fronts it will be darker since there's a slight tint in the even "untinted" fronts. I put 35 on the fronts and it matched pretty good - 20 would looks darker front to back and that's weird IMO (rather have it slightly lighter up front)

    here's a picture

I own a window tint shop in Northern Illinois. Your factory rear windows should meter out around 24% VLT. (There is always a slight varience with meters) 20% would closely match the rears but is illegal in most states. The 35% will be a shade lighter but will not look bad at all.

You do have other options if you want the 35% on the front roll downs to appear darker. Windshield strip (eyebrow) or tinting the whole windshield with a 50% or lighter film. You will be surprised at how much heat is rejected through that tinted windshield if you go this route.

Also, please check your states tint laws.

Problem is 20% on the front door windows will get you a ticket in many states. Alabama for one. The back windows can be painted over, but the driver/front-passenger door windows can't. I think our standard is 32% +/- 3%. My son has been pulled over twice and checked in the last year. His were done at a tint show where they can't install illegal tint without getting into difficulty themselves.

For the last poster, in Alabama no tint below the upper 6" on the windshield, and that tint MUST be within the 32% range as well. I presume so that you can reliably see a traffic light...

Legal window tint, that's silly hehe

If you don't give the cops a reason to pull you over you should be good. I've had illegal tint for 8 years and have been ticketed once

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
What options are there for window coatings that would reduce heat and UV? I want to get darker tint but don't want to mess with breaking the law since it varies by state. I just drove from MN to AZ and back and had to cover my left knee with a t-shirt because I started to get a sunburn.
