    Not to bag on your previous forum...but no wonder why so many people ran body lifts...it was a cheby forum...

    I cant even count how many S10's and Silverados I see around here with huge ass body lifts on them.

    I saw a mid 90's silverado a while back with a 4'' Body lift on it...yes, 4''...I had to get out with a tape measure in the parking lot to confirm my suspicions....:eek:

    It's been said on here before:

    Think about standing on a coke can, or better yet, stand on a deep socket.

    That's what a 3" body lift basically is. You space out the body 3 additional inches away form the frame, and NO body lift comes with some sort of longitudinal brace, so that the body can't roll from side to side/front to back. The only thing keeping the body from slipping to the side (think the coke can falling over) is the tension on the bolts holding the body to the frame (which is not the direction of forces being applied to a 3" body lift). Bolts aren't designed to take bending forces, bolts are meant to only take tention (parallel to the long axis of the bolt) or, in some cases, sheer.

    A 1" BL is "better" than a 3", but I would still not do it.

    The main issue I have with BL's is that they in no way shape or form increase performance. You get all the disadvantages of a suspension lift (higher center of gravity) and none of the benefits (increase travel, ground clearance, etc...).

    let me guess:

    a 4" body lift, plus a 6" block lift, too... lol

    Let me ask this then.. If I was was wanting a db lift I might as well go with camburg or total chaos for articulation..correct?? Because you wouldn't be adding any additional wheel travel?

    if you go with a DB lift all you're doing is decreasing your ground clearance under the front diff and raising your COG again thus causing your offroad experience to be completely shit.

    On the other hand if you crawl teh malls like myself then DB is beast.

    A 1'' BL is 100% safe and presents 0 issues of any kind. If your concern is mechanical there is no concern if your concern is asthetics, there is no concern.

    People are making an issue where there isn't one most likely through a lack of experience and just parroting what they have heard or read others say.

    Your truck body is not going to tear itself away from the frame nor is raising the center of gravity a concern in as much as its a concern for doing a suspension lift. What raises more weight higher a suspension lift or a body lift? Exactly. As for creaking or making other sounds all I can say is huh? If you are serious about offroading in your production model vehicle, you have a body lift. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

    The 1" bls are fine if one needs tire clearance, but the 3" bls are the ones we rag on

    With a [good] suspension lift you gain suspension performance and clearance; a "side effect" is an increased COG.
    With a body lift you increase your COG, and get no other benefit other than being able to fit larger tires..

    I don't agree with this. I have a 3" body lift, 3" Fabtech coilovers that are set at approx. 2-1/4", Alcan 8-leaf rear leaf spring set that gives 2" of lift, and I have 33-12.50's Buckshot Mudders that will ocassionally rub in the front while wheeling pretty hard. Slapping on a set of 35" mud tires in my opinion will lead to even more rubbing even in very MINOR offroading. Just my opinion though. These 1st generation tacomas require LOTS of lift in order to stuff large tires underneath of. The rear isn't too bad, but it's the front fender wells that give the most obstruction. Just my opinion though from what I have experienced with my 2000 ext. cab trd 4x4.
