I have the OEM running boards that are plastic over aluminum I believe. They are pretty faded from sun exposure. Ive heard of plastic restore stuff but dont really feel like having to reapply every few months. Has anyone ever tried spray bedliner stuff on the plastic? Is it even durable? Any other ideas?

Believe it or not that stuff “wipe new” in the small yellow box. Actually works I swear it does a good job. I use to use it on my Jeep trim like the flares and especially the door handles and it does work. Stinks like hell tho but it will last at least 6 months it’s cheap like $8 it’s worth the effort

A lot of people complain some of those products wash off in rain. Has that not been the case for you?

Ive never seen it wash off in the rain. You can aslo use a heat gun to turn faded plastic back to a darker shade but you have to be careful not to melt the plastic

That falls into the washes off in the rain.

I would recommend a trim coating. I use GTechniq C4 and get well over a year out of it. Keep in mind my truck lives outside 24/7. Gyeon and Carpro make similar products. Yes it is expensive but it will not wash off if applied properly. A small bottle last quite a while too.

Wouldn’t some of those protectant make the surface slick? Especially the running boards.

Yes. Depending on product like a dressing like 303. Coatings on the other hand will not make it slick.

How many times can you go over your truck with it. I see it's like $30 for a bottle that's like 3 teaspoons so I'm guessing only once?

Car guys plastic restorer works good also . Check on Amazon
Use on all exterior plastics and last pretty long .
Op in I would rather use something like this than paint .Depending on paint used can flake and chip. Something like SEM or duplicolor bumper and trim paint which works good if correctly prepped you would still have to treat with something or you will end up were you be back to were you started from

I've used those back to black products and they lose their effectiveness over time, aside from it not lasting that long. One thing that helped the black plastic fenders on our 2003 Tacoma was the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It works because it's slightly abrasive. Took all of the washed out look away. The results lasted much longer, but like any plastic, it fades again.

This product seems worthy to me. I would really like to use this on my Pop & Lock tailgate handle. That plastic is super faded and washed out looking.

I also use this product great stuff. If you use it from day one when the truck is new it will keep it from fading although you do have to re apply more offten it does have uv blockers in it witch keeps it from fading.

Yeah completely understand its a lot of $$ for the volume. I was skeptical at first but decided to roll the dice as I grew tired of constantly reapplying dressings. Just bought my 2nd bottle from autogeek. Make sure if you purchase from there to wait until they run a 15 or 20% off sale. Don't pay full price.
