I don't understand that either. Knowing 80% of driving laws is good enough?

The other thing I don't understand about driving tests is why they offer the test in several languages (at least here in Oregon) but all the road signs are in English. The test should only be given in English because that's the language you need to be able to read while you're driving.

I took my drivers test during a blizzard driving up a mountain pass in a POS some sort of car that was forcing my knees into the dash. I thought I was going to die.

I got a little marked down for speeding back in town (but I had just got off the highway so I was eager lol) and I did this awkward thing at a stop sign (I thought it was a four way but it was a two and a car was coming. I started to pull out and he said he -almost- applied the brakes but I only moved like 6 inches before I stopped again )

But I still passed first time :D

Last time I took a test it was on computer and the questions were stupid and some were worded bass-ackwards. Missed one because didn't catch the bass-ackwardness. After that, I realized I had to read carefully.

Missed another one that was not law related - it was about 2 cars going around a curve in opposite directions and which one would best be able to avoid a collision. Not really sure there is a definitive answer for that question, and wtf is the point of the question anyway?

Is this a DMV examiner? She may have failed you just so you would have to take the test again and pay the fee... Government at work.

You fail all the time, but you aren't a failure until you start blaming someone else. ~ The late and great Bum Phillips

OP, you failed the 3 point turn, you failed the left hand turn. Practice and take it again and be thankful you live in Florida where parallel parking isn't on the test.

Ya I took my parallel parking test in a 1968 4 door chevy bel air. It was a boat, had a great running 307 in it. Anyways I was taught how to parallel park that thing and did so. My daughter took her test driving around some cones and I don't think to this day she knows how to parallel park. A lot of people don't. It is comical and sad to see people trying to park their itty bitty cars.

It would be nice just one time to go in to take the driving test with a really hopped up ride like I had as a teenager, and just violate every law know to man, burnouts, power slides, drag racing to the next stop sign, just to see the look on their face...

    That would be priceless...

This...all day long. And no matter what she was yelling at you - YOU are the driver. Clearly she failed you because you made a poor decision..Maybe she would have failed you for not listening to her commands, but maybe she was just trying to see what you would do.

This!!!! You were the one driving right? Stop blaming others for the things you control. Practice, brush up on the DMV road manual and Better luck next time.

My sister recently took the Fl drivers test and passed even after messing up on some simple things. Before they started driving the lady asked her to turn on the right turn signal, well my sister turned on the left one and the same or the other side. The leaving the DMV office to do a spin around the block she nearly hit a sign. But she passed first time

Friend of mine put her car through the side of the DMV building on her first (and last) test. The tester retired a week later. There were some lawsuits filed. My friend decided rather sensibly that driving wasn't for her and to this day does not have a license.

I guess when I got my license in Texas I was lucky. The DMV was off a major interstate, but the lady that was my examiner was really sweet. We went around a couple of blocks, drove through some 4 lane intersections and lights, then back to the office. Entire test drive was 30 minutes at the most from when she sat in the car to when we parked it back at the DMV. I got a 100 on the road test, and a 98 on the written. (and we had to do the parallel at the DMV when we got back.)

Yeah, being decisive and predictable is key. We make a million judgment calls when driving, and they involve traffic conditions, weather conditions, light conditions, vehicle capability, spatial perceptions, etc. If you are no confident that your maneuver will work, don't' take your foot off the brake. But when you decide to go, never hesitate, because the conditions will change during that hesitation, and what may have worked fine 3 seconds ago can now be a close call and cause other drivers to have to respond to you by braking, swerving, whatever.

And we don't always get it right, do we? Sometimes we think, shit, that was a bit close, or that guy was going faster than I thought. It happens, but you learn and adjust.

But being predictable and decisive...I can't even count how many times a week I scream "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING! to a driver in front of me. You are sharing the road, and your actions communicate to other drivers around you, who are also trying to make decisions based on your actions. Send them clear messages.

BTW, in my universe, only 100% is acceptable when it comes to driving, an all tests should be conducted in a manual 4-banger filled with passengers going uphill on the Hyde street cable car line in SF, "the steepest grade in the cable car system—a harrowing 21 percent slope—a loooonng two blocks from Chestnut to Bay Street." The slippery tracks in the street make hill starts at a stop sign with a carload of people very...interesting. It will galvanize your nutsack as a teen driver.:anonymous:

    http://vimeo.com/2722574

Here is some additional perspective on grade...check out the garage doors on the left.

If I went every time someone said go I would have died at least twice this week.:D

They love to fail people. Back in the day the lady giving my test told me to pull over to the side of the road like I was parking. So I pulled over with two tires off the road on the grass. Turns out that is destruction of property and an immediate failure... They just shop for reasons to fail people so they get more revenue.
