Pretty stupid. Then again, MA is similar.

Long ago my friend's brother installed the 3rd brake light in his 1983 Olds Delta 88. This was shortly after the concept began and was mandated on all new vehicles, he did his in the interest of safety. He failed the inspection for it. As the law is written you technically can't add that kind of lighting. Strange, huh..I forget if he removed it and passed or something else.

That's dumb. Your job as inspector is to inspect the vehicle, not diagnose it as I understand.

So, emissions are supposed to reduce pollution correct?

Which is better? A vehicle which gets 45 mpg with emissions or the same vehicle at 100 mpg without? I’m on the 100 mpg camp. My Honda Insight could probably get double the mileage without all the emissions controls that holds it back. If this is true, who are we fooling?

Could you imagine cutting our oil dependency by 50% for vehicles? Probably would be the silver bullet for electric cars. Makes you wonder just a bit doesn’t it?

We could reduce our oil dependency also by changing our oil at longer intervals. Manufactures have been developing cleaner running vehicles, and longer lasting synthetics just for this reason.

Had to be around 2010...been retired since 2016. They still use a sniffer up the tail pipe here.

True, though we have done that by going from the 3K recommendation back in the day of the dino blend being it.

Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
No way GTFO. You passed or just completed the drive cycle? There is no way I am removing a complete remote start wiring harness. Damn I hate NY.

I passed inspection. But I’m still not sure if it was the remote start or the speedometer calibrator. I wish I scanned the truck with them still installed to see what it said

It wasn’t too hard to remove them both. Just gotta pull the dash apart which is always fun. Not sure if I’m going to re-install them or not

That was back in the 60-70's. I seem to recall oil changes for my Toyotas were around 7500 miles with dino oil beginning around the mid 80's, yet its pretty strange with these synthetics today, and cleaner engines, guys here are advocating going backwards to 5k miles, or less, go figure.

I could be wrong, but I thought we had an ample supply of domestic natural gas?

Here in PA if a vehicle is driven less than 5k miles per year it's considered exempt for emissions testing provided no CEL is on. I ride a motorcycle far more than what I drive my truck so I've been exempt for the past roughly 10 years. Another anomaly in PA is that not all 67 counties require emissions testing so only some parts of the state even have to deal with it.

I like a bit of thought out into these laws. Kudos to PA.

That’s why we can’t use it, apparently.

Well, there is a strategic case to be made for using up their energy supplies before ours. He who has the last barrel of oil wins! :)
