I went to take the emission test today, to register my 2002 Tacoma that i just bought.

    I had problems.

First of all the Engine Light is not turning on.

Does anybody know how to check this? maybe is the Light bulb or a cable that is disconnected.

    Also i got 2 codes:

    P0300: Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
    P0301: Cylinder 1 Missfire Detected.

Please Help I need to register my truck ASAP.

X2 to change the plugs and wires. Does the CEL come on when you turn the key to the ON position (not actually starting it)?

The funny thing is that the Fuel light nor the CEL come on when i turn the key to the on position.

I will change the spark plugs, I am not very familiar with this truck since i've only had it for 5 days, my other car is a 67 mustang and the sparkplugs are so easy to change.

Is there a manual to change the spark plugs for this truck? also do i need to reset something after i do that? Thanks

Fairly straight forward. Do them one at a time to avoid mis wiring them. There is nothing that will need reset.

I think there are a few bulbs in there that might need replaced. It's been a while since I have had one of them apart.

It is possible that it through that code due to the misfire.

Stands to reason if the plugs are fouled. They wouldn't burn all the fuel, and the result would be a rich condition.

All right guys this is really frustrating.

I took the dash apart and found out the CEL bulb was completly missing, they removed it on purpose

So that problem is fixed, then i changed the sparkplugs they weren't that bad, they were all double's expept for one, Cylinder number "1" i got the Code P03001 Cylinder 1 missfire detected. So i was pretty sure that was the problem. I got the scnanner hooked up and cleared all the codes :D.

I started driving to the Emission test center and literally as soon as i was going thru the Check Engine light comes on again . Exactly 19.6 Miles.

I went to Autozone and i they checked it for me, again the exact same codes. P0300 and P0301.

So my question is, what else can i do? i want to start by the cheap solutions since i don't have alot of money. But i need some help fast, i can't register my car if i don't fix this and this is my only vehicle.

    Thanks!

Hmm, the next thing I would check is the spark plug wire for that cylinder.

Yes, I do get 60 days to register the vehicle, i have replaced all spark plugs with Bosh Dual Platinium.

The wires Uhm i will check on that they look pretty good, i will check them anyways.

I have also celaned the MAF just in case, see what happens.
