Problem is if the thieves want the truck bad enough they will just show up with a flatbed . If possible park it in a garage or different spot. u be surprised how thieves will come back to attempt another try to steal the truck .

I'm definitely leaning to some sort of kill switch.

That's my main concern. Once it has been spotted it can easily become a recurrent problem. After all the reading today. My VIN was visible from the outside. If they already got the paperwork done at the Port or got themself another key...

Putting my 45pounds Denver Sabot is starting to look appealing. But that's gonna be a real pain fiddle with.

I had a guy tell me the same thing right after his manual transmission truck was stolen. The suspect then got into a pursuit in the next county.

I know about that and once again. That's why I asked in my original post.

And I still didn't get an answer if the ODB port is relevant for my truck which requires a physical KEY in the socket. I don't know about slowing them down, but at the very least, they can probably shut off the integrated alarm system real quick. That's why I'm leaning more toward a dummy port. Which I'm also tempted to toy with by connecting it to a taser or something that will fry their hacking device.

I always thought that a good anti theft addition would be a starter kill that when activated would lock the horn on when someone tried to start it.

Yah, it’s a stick so they could still push it. But I bet they’re going to turn the key to start first.

Horn blaring at 3 AM? I mean, I’d leave in a hurry.

Toggle switch and a relay or two would do it. Someone on here could draw it up.

yeah, you can get in trouble for that here in the states as well and every state has different laws regarding guns.
Here in AZ we are allowed to open carry but to use your firearm against a person in any way other than to defend your life or someone elses can put you up shit creek and even then you could be tied up in legal proceedings trying to fight charges.
Are you allowed to have Samurai Swords in Canada?

Well. That's exactly what I got. He broke the window, opened the door and BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP... Few seconds later, I was at the window, figured it was MY baby crying. Few more seconds to put some pants on and by the time I was out. Street was quiet.

Anyone uses IGLA? I'm starting to research for good immobilisers.
What about Autowatch Ghost Immobiliser? That sh!t is expensive.

Meanwhile I came across this https://ravelco.fun/?en Someone decided to dedicate a whole site to shame a product. Now that's interesting. LOL :crapstorm:

Pants are a waist of time. Go without, catch ‘em in the act. :D If they come back after that, you’ve got bigger problems.

Looks like nobody really knows if your truck can be stolen via the OBII port. I have an SR with a hard key but I’ve added a southeast toyota keyless entry keyfob, it can’t be reprogrammed via the OBDII port.
The site linked below appears to indicate you’re not at risk since you don’t have an oem keyless entry fob that can be reprogrammed via the OBDII port.

“Gast says thieves can get into cars by intercepting the locking signal sent from the key fob, which can take less than 30 seconds, or by manually breaking in and plugging into the car's diagnostic port to reprogram the key fob and start the vehicle.”

If anyone has any different info feel free to add if you have a link to a credible source of information.

    Thanks man!
After researching all day and since I'm no grease monkey. I'm leaning toward a commercial immobilizer solution. Most of the credible ones also protect the diag port one way or another.
I might install an extra power independent screamer in the truck. Next time my unwanted guests want to pay a visit they will need extra work/time to achieve their goal.

I put a Ring camera right next to where I park my truck in the driveway. Other than that I'm not going to worry about it. If someone wants it badly enough they are going to get it, plus I'll get more from the insurance settlement if it disappears completely than I would if I traded it in.

Just be careful with what you do if/when you get a text in the middle of the night.

I mentioned it before on another similar thread, but I had a coworker who caught a thief mid-attempt (mobile device notification) and took a little batting practice on the thief’s legs and back while they were working under the dash of his car.

Unfortunately, my coworker got arrested along with the thief.

Definitely check with your state’s laws regarding use of force to protect property.

On a traditional steering column ignition switch vehicle they can't start it through the OBD port. The ignition key/tumbler and electrical switch has to be physically turned.

In the old days they would pry the electrical portion of the switch off and physically turn it. .. but the steering wheel is still locked in place until the tumbler gets turned. So then they would have either try to drill it out or rip the whole ignition lock housing away from the column

On these newer push-start cars there's no physical/mechanical linkage between the "key" and the ignition. The pcm sees you approaching with the fob in your pocket, and then the start button powers up the car and sends a signal to the starter motor. As long as the vehicle is satisfied with the fob that it sees, it will let the vehicle start. That's why they can go in through the OBD port and basically program a new fob in a hurry. The fancier software can do it faster and faster

All those new Kia/Hyundai vehicles were getting stolen because somebody shared the software on tik-tok lol

    In Arizona:

    DEFENDING YOUR PROPERTY:

Similar to defending yourself, Arizona law (A.R.S 13-408) also permits people to use physical force to defend their property. The use of physical force is justified when a reasonable person believes it is necessary to prevent an attempt or commission of criminal damage or theft of their property. Except in very rare circumstances, deadly force is not permitted merely to defend one's property.
