Faint clunking sound 2021 Pro

I just got my 2021 TRD Pro, lunar rock. At low speed there is a very faint clunking sound. I can't tell if its coming from the front or rear. Wondering if anybody else's 2021 is doing this....

 

Need more info. When are you hearing the sound?

 

Gotta describe it further

when does it happen, is it sporadic or rhythmic, increase with speed etc

 

Only at low speeds, like in a parking lot, forward and reverse, turning or going straight doesn't matter

 

Sporadic, over smooth pavement, most noticeable at parking lot speeds.

 

Brake pad slap? Does it happen when switching forward to reverse or vice versa?

 

Usually its the TRD skid plate that needs a subtle adjustment.

 

Doesn't seem to matter.

 

Can you give details?

 

It's a large solid plate and it can click and creek over bumps. Very slightly and I usually can fix it by loosening it and shifting it.

If you are going let's say 5mph forward and 5mph reverse, is it the same rithem? Maybe record the two and compare?

My thinking is that 1st and reverse have different gear ratios. You should be able to rule out a lot of they are at the same or different frequencies

 

Sounds the same if forward or reverse, sometimes I can get it changing from reverse to forward, and sometimes I can get it if I stab the brakes

 

I have the exact same clunking coming from my 2018, at least this is how I would describe it. A loose bolt on the skid plate solved my first clunk, but I haven’t fount the source of this one. I notice it when backing into my driveway or sometimes pulling into a parking spot. I wonder if it’s something with the torque converter, it has a hollow sort of sound like that.

There are many threads about Tacoma driveline clunks related to u-joints ans slip yokes also. For now I’m chalking it up to it being a Tacoma noise. This truck makes a lot more noise than the Tundra I had before it. Oh well, it’s under warranty

 

Maybe from the Pro lunar rocks knocking around?
