Hi everyone, I'm new to the taco community and am trying to get to know my truck.
It is a 2012 TRD Sport 4x4 V6, 5' Bed stock everything with 83k miles on the ODO.
For some reason I hear a whining noise when the gas is released at highway speeds.
I know this might be normal/dumb, but I also freaked out when I was at a drive-thru and thought I had rod knock that turned out to be the "taco-tick"....

Is it coming from the rear?

no, it sounds like it's coming from the front, 2 o'clock from the driver's seat

    Manual or automatic transmission?

If I got worried about every strange whine/whir/strange noise that my 2007 Taco made, I'd be a nervous wreck. There will be sounds. However, when a new one pops up, then you take notice...

    Throttle body/butterfly closing?

When I had a CAI (cold air intake) on my 1st gen, at just the right low level of throttle & not under load (i.e. slight gas but still coasting) I'd have a very distinct & loud whistling roughly from the 1 o'clock position which is where the air box is located.

It's good to take notice of these sounds and address them. I do.
Is it only at highway speeds? Can you recreate it parked and pressing the accelerator? Or at low speed to have someone outside narrow it down?

Could use a gopro or put it on a dyno and have someone walkaround and pinpoint it.

I used to own a new model vehicle and i hated it so much, it was literally better in every way (comfortablity, smoother ride, advanced tech, 40mpg, etc) but i realized that i hate technology and modernity with a passion, i absolutely do not want a nanny vehicle like a tesla, its honestly a car made for berry pickers. So i bought this lovely tacoma and i plan on keeping it for as long as possible, thats why im being so picky about every little sound.

I think I would check/inspect all the fluids (transmission, transfer case, and both axles) just to be sure everything is good, maybe see if you can get a video of the noise although noises are kinda hard to diagnose on video but maybe we can get an idea.

    I
Was thinking that. It has 80k miles so ill probably do every maintenance interval up to that point that doesn't show up on the car fax. Hopefully that helps extend the life of my truck a little bit.
