I get that weird sound every so often and then it goes away. I don’t know what it is, but seems to be normal or at least common for the truck.

The sound I can’t get past is the wind whistling sound coming from my driver window near the mirror. This one happens at 70mph consistently.

Anyone else get this wind sound in the driver window or know how to fix it?

Wow. Bunch of geniuses at that dealership, huh? Lol. THREE diffs for a noise that a) is clearly from the front just past the firewall and b) only happens when the A/C is on. Yeah keep replacing those diffs! Lol

Interesting that the new “random” A/C parts didn’t help.

Just to clarify, you had the noise on your previous truck. You had the noise on your 2021. AND have the noise on your 2021 with a new engine?

Sadly, yes. At this point I've accepted it for what it is. Also, my noise doesn't just happen when the AC is on. It was all the time on both trucks. Exact sound in the video.

strange. 99% of us with that noise can directly link it to the AC. Even if you disengage AC mid-noise it stops instantly.

I’ve determined it’s the AC causing the faint whistle on my truck. Don’t forget that in modern vehicles the AC has a mind of its own and sometimes runs when defrost is on, or sometimes comes on automatically when adjusting certain things.

That is the same as mine. It doesn't last it doesn't bother me. Now if it was constant, at a certain speed then it would drive me crazy.

    !!!SOLVED!!!

Everyone with the noise (and linked to A/C being on), use gap gauges to test your compressor clutch gap. Mine was out of spec on the too-small side. Took off the clutch and shimmed it out with another washer. PERFECT now. NO NOISE!

Be warned these are tough to find washers. You BARELY need to add thickness. Best bet is to order the shim kit right from Toyota. I played around with thin washers to try and find the fix, but had to drill them out a bit to fit the bolt through it, which is a royal pain in a super tiny washer. It's a good temp fix until I get the real shim.

There is a full page of detail in Techstream about the gap thresholds, which are 0.3mm - 0.6mm. FYI, mine was at 0.22mm. I would venture that most people with issues have the gap too small and need to shim it out.

5,000 miles on mine now ‘The whine’ is less noticeable then before, but still present. Usually hears it accelerating at around 40mph.

My 2011 DCLB does this too. Light whistling noise when accelerating around 3,000rpm only. Sounds like it’s coming from the left side of the truck cannot tell if it’s from the cowl area, door or rear of truck.

I have the exact same sound as the video in post #9. It's very random and only does it at 30-40 mph when the RPMs are up just prior to the next gear change. Because it's so infrequent it's really not a bother. As long as it's nothing that's going to break I'm writing it off as one of the quirky noises this truck makes. I've had my truck a/c set to auto since I bought it in May. It's south Florida so the a/c is always on.

My 2nd gen recently began to do it. Not sure if my cowl intake mod has anything to do with it.

if it does it with the AC off then it’s not the same thing. this noise is specifically caused by the shim/positioning of the AC clutch

Thanks for sharing this. Got any pics of the fix? I’d like to try it. Got a part number for the washers?

no pics but it’s just the shim washers between the clutch and AC. We just used washers close to the same size, not an official part, but Toyota must have them in their system somewhere. Most important thing is check the tolerance and see if it’s off.
