In my search for a used cap (and there hasn't been many 3rd gen options popping up in my area), I stumbled across a used Leer 100R cap w/sliding side windows and wired for lights. Assuming all is in good condition, what would you say a fair price is? Seller says he bought for $1400 last year, asking $900 now. I would have to paint eventually or deal with a white cap on a magnetic grey truck.

    2nd questions:
Should I just save my peanuts for another month or two and buy a new cap?

What would you gain for an additional $500? Color?

Buying used means you take less of a depreciation hit.

Well the depreciation only counts if he is happy with the white. IF he wants to have a colour matched canopy, then he is going to be forking out some extra cash. In all he may save 200 bucks if that, however he is out the warranty on the canopy as they are usually only applicable to the original purchaser.

Personally, I would buy the new canopy get the warranty and the colour matching. It we were talking 500-700different story. Guess it depends on what the cost to repaint the canopy is.

Price is reasonable, but it's a poor deal for you due to the colour mis-match. Wait for a MGM canopy to pop up.

I agree, that's a good deal but the cost to repaint it when you eventually want would put you in new cap territory.

Might consider if you are okay with DIY painting or bed coating it.

As others have said, because you will need to paint it I would pass on it. There are so many options with them to there is something to be said about buying new, that way you get exactly what you want. I paid $700 for mine used and it's awesome, but I would love to have had it carpeted and have the heavy duty mesh instead of screen in the sides for the dogs. Folding windows vs sliding is nice too.
