Help! A family friend is looking to get rid of his Tacoma and offered to sell to me before he lists it publicly. He asked me to make an offer and I’m having a tough time coming up with a number due to the age/condition.

can anyone chime in here on what they think is fair or market rate? I do not want to lowball because it is a friend. And yes it is a cream puff. KBB shows $17,500 in very good condition.

2009 access cab 4x4 sr5, black, rear locker, tan cloth interior, 6sp manual, 22,000 miles (yes that’s correct), 1 owner garage kept since new

if you have recently sold a similar low mile clean truck please let me know! Anything helps

I would be more concerned it’s 16 yrs old vs 22k miles. But you can bet your life someone would pay kbb pretty quick for that I suppose.

6speed with locker has to be some form of trd or I think

That’s something that would sell very well at that mileage, IF it’s in good condition

Condition will dictate the price here

If the frame was good, I’d pay that.

If the frame is in good shape it's worth that all day. I don't have experience with rust though and not sure if age or mileage is worse for that.. .

If it wasn’t rust proofed, and was driven in the snow, it could have had 1 frame replaced and be ready for the second to be replaced already…

    Use Edmunds private party midpoint

    Use KBB private party midpoint

    Average them together.

This sounds like a truck that would sell fast, for him it would definitely be an advantage to him to sell it to you and not deal with the usual headaches that can come with selling a vehicle. Just be fair, we all want a good deal but we also don’t want to feel like we’ve been taken advantage of.

If the frame is clean since it’s a northern truck. Kbb very good condition 15.8-17.8k 15k cash would be my first offer.

With that said and from a friend I'd be glowing to walk away with that for a friend price. It would quickly fetch the kbb price without negotiating.

The move is buy it from him for the friend price and then flip it and brag about how much money you made. Then use that profit to buy a new friend, preferably with something nice for sale.

Sounds like a good deal for a truck you can drive for the next 15+ years.
