Fake grass, astroturf, whatever you want to call it. Need recommendations

We have decided to stop fighting with keeping grass alive in a drought. We want to lay down some fake turf on part if our lawn and will mulch the rest. Anyone with experience, what kind of fake grass would you recommend for a durable And a relatively nice to walk on (soft) fake grass

 

Step one is to check with your city/town/municipality/whatever. I’ve heard of many people installing it only to have the city make them tear it up because of some outdated bylaw.

 

Fake turf eventually fades, and no matter how green it starts, it still looks fake. Consider drought resistant plants or the desert look.

Second the xeriscape. Way better bang for the buck.

 

I personally went with Southwest Greens SWG80 Olive Blend found here. We've had it for over 9 years with no issues. It doesn't stand up like when we first installed it, but that's typical.
