This cap from Amazon is supposedly OEM, part# verified for my truck. It leaks coolant. The spring bottoms out at about 9 lbs.

The main reason to replace the other one I have is it's some aftermarket cap, and I saw a bit of coolant residue next to it that may or may not have been there a long time. After the OEM one leaked I replaced my other one back. I noticed it's significantly higher pressure. I wiped down the area good, and it's not leaking after a few drives. Gonna leave it alone.

Obviously returning this OEM one. Counterfeit you think? A reviewer had the same issue as me.

so, that S stamp is intriguing to me. I don't think I've seen an OEM stamped that way in my 10+ years of Toyota shitboxery. The S looks like a Stant cap logo but it doesn't look like a Stant cap. The sticker doesn't look compelling either. Calling it a counterfeit seems appropriate

I'd trust a parts house brand from Advance/Oreilly over that "OEM" cap.

    Maybe @Empty_Lord @Speedytech7 can help

It's most likely real, Toyota contracts this stuff out and that's what a Stant logo and a stant cap for our trucks looks like.

Why are folks always shocked when Amazon or eBay orders happen to turn up a little sketchy?

Thankfully Amazon has a friendly return policy. Use it.

Looks like a factory to me. But the fakes can be deceiving.

Yeah all good with the Amazon free return. With the free shipping, a couple clicks to add it to my Amazon order was easier than ordering from a dealer. I don't think I'll bother trying again to replace the one that isn't broken. I'm just kind of on a parts spree, replacing relatively cheap stuff.

Would the cap leak be because 9 lbs is too low pressure, or it's just a bad fit?

The "09" stamp for 9 PSI? I think our radiators take a 13 PSI cap.

I'm not sure if it's the case with these Tacomas, but for some models sometimes there are 2 different supplies of radiators or there are 2 types of radiators for the different types of engines, and the filler necks are different lengths, so there may be 2 types of radiator caps, one cap may be longer and if you get the shorter one and put it on a radiator that should have the longer cap, then it won't hold the pressure. I know for Corollas there were Harrison and Denso radiators, both suppliers to Toyota depending on where the cars were manufactured, and the necks were different lengths. So, the cap you got may be legit Toyota but it is for the wrong type of radiator.

    0.9 is ~13psi

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Being these are a semi sealed system the cap is allowing coolant to be pushed into the reservoir tank and out of the tank vent??

Bad lot of springs something slipped by quality control ?

    Things get botched it happens.

I do like the idea of different necks on radiators.

Was it an Amazon seller or Amazon itself you purchased from? At least on the link you listed, the seller is actually Craig Inc.

FWIW, This can happen with Toyota direct part sellers too. I had this exact problem with an OEM cap I got from toyotapartdeal.com. They sent me a replacement cap when I describer to them what was happening.

Does yours have the same markings on the lip (pic 3)?

Right, I bought from Craig Inc on Amazon. I don't know for sure about the lip marking because I already boxed it up, but I don't remember seeing that 1980 or anything like that.
