I ran into a guy with a Tundra yesterday who has some cool custom TRD bedside stickers I was admiring. We got to talking and I noticed SR5 badging on a rear door. Nothing on the tailgate though. I was like, well it’s not really a TRD right? He looked me right in the eyes and said yes it was. In that moment I calculated all the possibilities and decided to let it lie, in case he’d been sold a non TRD at TRD prices. He’d replaced the normal TRD stickers with his custom ones after all.

I've got all the TRD goodies, first thing I checked before buying when I saw the SR5 badge.. Vin # brings up the same, so don't know what to tell you.
SR5 & TRD OffRoad can indeed go together.

I don’t know anything about Tundras but at least with Tacos I know a TRD and SR5 are different, you can’t have both. Seats are different for example.

I can take some pictures today & post them up. I'll leave it to the collective to decide.

The vehicle specification sheet for my 2008 shows it as a base with TRD Offroad Pkg. Doesn't mention SR5 anywhere.

But TRD packages are an upgrade starting from SR5. Guess that's why it has the SR5 badge on the tailgate, since SR5 is what got you color-keyed bumpers and fender flares, the chrome grill trim, fog lamps, convenience package, leather wrapped steering wheel, etc.

TRD OR in 2008 added stuff like the locker, suspension, skid plates, 120VAC inverter. Not sure exactly how it was handled on paper. IOW, did you have to order SR5 to be eligible to order TRD OR or when you ordered TRD OR you automatically got SR5 stuff.

Every TRD is an SR5 package plus, or it least it used to be. They stopped badging them that way around 2012 I believe. I have an '05 Offroad, and it has an SR5 badge.

I actually didn't order it. I found it new at the dealership in Pa, made a pretty decent deal on it. It is an Off Road with tech package, with all its goodies (locker, cc, etc). I just found it kinda funny that it shows up as SR5 (even at the dealership where I go for service) :notsure:

It’s a Tacoma SR5. OR is just a upgrade package. I know that’s how it is with older Tacoma’s like someone mentioned on here.

I want to say my parents older Tundra and 4Runner all have the SR5 badge then the upgrade trim.

A lot of people are unfamiliar with vehicle trims unless you do your research, even then most people don’t know. This is across all vehicle manufacturers. It’s a detail thing and most people aren’t that detailed. It took me months researching the Pickup and 1st gen Tacoma and I still don’t know what little detail features comes with each model or year.

    I’m still not 100%.

Depending on what database is being used mine shows up as a "base" truck sometimes based on VIN. Not all sources know about factory installed options correctly I guess.

People try to deceive. In the 80 series Land Cruisers people will install the dash switch to trick unsuspecting shoppers into thinking the truck has the front, center and rear lockers when it doesn't.

When I bought mine at the dealer certified used it had no badges. Was listed as an SR5. Then on the test drive I saw a rear locker button, looked underneath and had the blue and yellow shocks. Then I thought to myself, , this has all the goodies of an TRD-OR for cheap, sold! Almost 10 yrs later I still get a kick out of it.

Heck, there is a guy here that bought a 1st gen later to find out it was supercharged, dealer had no idea. Or so it is rumored.

Must’ve changed over model years. I shopped for a 2nd Gen twice in two years and never once saw a TRD with SR5 badging. Then again i was only looking at 2012+.

I worked on it today. By "worked" I mean, they wanted me to install vent visors and a hood protector, both by WeatherTech.
The person that bought it works at the dealer.

I did drive it a little. 2012-2015 Tacoma's are better. The only things I liked were the mirrors (inner and outer) and the GoPro mount (factory?).

Wait.. why do people care? It’s the same truck with an overpriced package on it. A Tacoma is a Tacoma regardless of packages. As for putting stickers on it, I can see why. The sticker looks better than a plain bed, and what else is really acceptable to put there ? Now if we were talking about people putting M series badges on their car or sti badges that’s a whole different case
Also adding turbo/ supercharged Badges on NA cars is dumb lmao
