Can happen to a dealer too. i stopped at a Dodge dealer with my son to look at a charger hellcat. He said a new guy took a Tacoma in on trade last week and didn't run the vin. The customer shaved the badges. It was a Prerunner... the dealer gave him 4x4 trade price. Run the vins.. its free.

Wow, you can tell 4wd a lot easier than checking the VIN.

you'd think. my prerunner is a base model. there are no 4x4 switches, lights... and a ton of blank switch locations. just usb/aux not even fog lights.
Nothing to break. Except the stupid radio that freezes and reboots once and a while.
My attempt to help de-clutter my life. But yeah.. Just look for the freakin' switch.

Update the radio software. Mine did this until I updated it and it’s been fine since.

Is that something I can do myself or dealer? I'm pretty cheap.

DIY. Search around for “entunes update” you’ll probably find the appropriate info. The software can be downloaded from Toyota’s website onto a jump drive and uploaded to the truck via USB port

The 1st Gen OR were also SR5s. I had a 03 TRD DC that was branded as an OR SR5. I bought it brand new.

I also believe that in the sr5 (not for sure exactly) the head liner is grey and not black. mines a TRD OR 2wd all black interior cloth seats with the premium tech package so i got all the bells and whistles but sadly no 4x4 :....(

I once heard that a guy with a 2wd truck came in to a dealership to trade up. He had 4x4 stickers on the bed of the truck and when they valued his trade they put it down as 4wd. Guy got like $2500 more for his trade and they didnt catch it was only a 2wd truck untill after the deal was done.

If they don't ask.. shame on them.
If you put fake stickers on it to make the deal... that's wrong. Misrepresenting to increase the value is theft in my opinion.
The dealer that told me about their mistake asked me flat out, because I shaved all the badges off mine. Poser, all the way to the grocery store.

We just traded up my wife's 2014 4Runner on a Limited Nightshade edition 2019 4Runner and the first thing they did before valuing her 2014 was get the VIN.

I'm not trying to mislead anyone. My 2013, super white, reg. cab, 4X4, I'm pretty sure, only came in base model, it now has 2018 TRD wheels, TRD sport stickers, & am hoping, eventually will have TRD scoop hood. None were available on a reg. cab. but "I" love the looks. I've done it for "ME", & really don't care what others think. Any help finding a scooped hood in middle TN., would be appreciated.

Same here. Shaved everything. Prerunner, but tell anyone that asks. Painted my front lower valance OD green, aftermarket wheels and beefier tire. I like it and for what I use it for, i don't need 4x. So poser or not... it's mine and it makes it to the grocery store just fine.
Snowing today, taking my Subaru to pick up the kids. That's why i own a Subaru too.

Im back and forth on the scooped hood for me.

    None.
It works both ways. I bought a real TRD OR from a dealer in N.C. It had the TRD supercharger and exhaust but they weren't listed in the description. I enjoyed telling the salesman after we closed.
