I often get asked while I'm out in Montana and Wyoming about my Expo Flyfishing Edition, "How much did it cost me? With a straight face I tell them it was special order 'one year only.'

This always boggled my mind. Tacoma owners that put fake badges. What is the end goal, to impress strangers? For one, the average person has no clue what the difference is between a prerunner, sre5 or TRD OR, to them a pickup is a pikcup. Where as a Tacoma owner knows the difference and subsequently thinks you are a poser.

yeah the T-100 is kind of an ancestor too though... and I wouldn't want one of those.

Love these custom FJs, there were a few that went across the block this year. I have been to the B-J Auction :)laughing:) a couple times in Vegas and AZ

'Zactly. The fake badge either says absolutely nothing or screams very sad poser. Never understood what drves that.

Open your mind, maybe you'll understand. What about from Toyota? Does Pre Runner either say absolutely nothing or screams very sad poser. I do understand that the owner wants the look of a 4X4, but doesn't need a 4X4. Personally I don't need a 4X4 TRD Sport reg. cab, but I do want one. As Toyota doesn't make that model, I will make my 13 reg.cab 4X4 look & act as much like a TRD Sport as I can, on my budget. "I", "me", "this person sitting right here" can enjoy looking out in the driveway & seeing it sitting there. If someone doesn't like seeing what looks like a TRD Soprt 4X4 reg. cab sitting there, look the other way.

Remember, some people add the stickers for another very sad reason - greater resale value. That's where it crosses a line with me.

Trying to scam someone is a totally different situation. I'm planning on looking at mine for hopefully a bunch of yrs., probably the last truck I will own. I want to enjoy looking at it as much as I can for as long as I can. I like the looks of a TRD Sport, a lot more than a standard Taco. Maybe kind'f like the picture on my living room wall. I like the looks of it, if I didn't, I'd change it out for a picture I did like. To me, it seems so simple, nothing to with scamming anybody.

Yep, another '05 SR5 TRD Off Road; the SR5 badge is on the right side of the tailgate but the "TRD Off Road" decals have been removed. I had some young twenty something year old compliment me on my truck then add that it'd be nicer if it were an Off-Road model. I told him it was indeed an Off-Road and he said it couldn't be. I told him to climb under it and look at the rear locker then notice the inverter switch and the seats. Instead of checking he doubled down on the stupid and said that a "real" TRD OR would have Bilsteins. It's pretty easy to see the OME suspension under mine. I asked him if he'd ever heard that saying about better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove any doubt and just walked away.

I just saw a preunner in Dallas the other day, dude had 4x4 badges and TRD stickers all over it. Riding around with his backwards cap on lol. But he left the prerunner badges on it.....??? Some people's kids ain't right !

Says the guy with 1991 Tacoma under his name? :boink: I had one of the first Tacomas- they were introduced in 1995 and a half. Honestly, I'm just busting your chops as I really don't care what folks do to their personal vehicles as long as they're not scamming anyone. People have been customizing cars as long as there have been cars and making a lower end model look like a higher end is as common as it gets.
