I am thinking of doing this to my truck this week. Have a good deal on some wheels. How bad was the rubbing before the lift? Still drivable? I plan on doing an inch to inch and a half level in a few weeks but want to know if this will be okay to run without a lift for a while?

It's 'drive-able', yes. From what I can remember, you'll just rub a ton. Hard turns will rub, reverse will rub A LOT..I vividly remember reversing out of a parking stall and was like damn....haha. Got home and ordered my lift.

A 9" wide wheel with -12 offset with all else stock (alignment/lift) and a 265 70 17 tire will rub somewhere between 'a ton' and 'some'. It won't rub on the cab mount though so you should be able to fix it with a Dremel (for the hard plasticic at the bottom) and a heat gun for the liner.

Unless you are planning on running larger tires in the future I'd stay away from 17x9 -12 wheels. They really want a 285 or wider tire and some extra work with alignment and trimming. Don't be me (or OP) and learn about offset and scrub radius before selecting your wheels.

    Work in progress...
it's catching the plastic just in front on the cab mount weld. No biggie, plastic trim will fix it.
