Buy a Michelin tire for all-around performance, or buy an AT tire for looks; at which point it’s all a matter of personal preference.

I think a Defender is the best tire for most trucks that don’t require MT’s.

    Most trucks don’t require MT’s.

between Falken and BFG all I can say is I’ve tried BFG’s and they’re unimpressive in winter and unremarkable for the rest of the year.

My Wildpeaks will need replaced soon, I have just under 52,000 miles on them. I plan on mounting the Toyo AT3s as replacements soon. I expect them to be as good or better than the Falkens based on the feedback from people than have ran both.

Haa, you are an idiot. Falken is a brand of Sumitomo. There are absolutely tires made in China. Personally I would rather have a tire made in China than one made in the old Dunlop factory. You do realize that these Wildpeaks that you all are so queer over are really just a newer version of the old Dunlop Rover which were junk.

I'm bet you thought that was really clever as you were writing that. Though you should probably work on your reading comprehension skills.

I rewrote the sentence, sorry I missed that on the edit. I'm glad you understood the point this time though. And you were reduced to attacking my syntax, because you had no valid argument. Ad hominem FTW.

You really are a thin skinned ape.
For someone that has only been here a few months and usually only post vacuous glib remarks to be so entitled is amusing.

I apologize for entertaining the idea that my response to your humorous post would be appreciated.

I really like how my Wildpeaks have performed in rain and snow. Fairly quiet as well.

You’re the idiot. I work for Sumitomo. They don’t have a single tire plant in China. Most Japanese companies and people have bad blood with the Chinese.

Most tires are constructed the same way or close depending on the equipment. Not sure if the rover was ever produced in our plant, if so the construction will be likely similar. However the compounds are different. But I’m sure you worked in a rubber factory for 30 years or something so you know everything.

I had the older KO1's they were ok, I'm on the Falken wild peak MT and I'm happy with them. The best offroad tire is the Nitto trailgrappler I've had a few sets on a wrangler.

My job has required many visits to China and Korean over the last 20 years, I can absolutely verify that the citizens of each have a less than enthusiastic view of the Japanese. The South Koreans who almost all seem to speak English, tend to be a little more forthright in their assessments, but still politely stop short of saying "we hate those bastards" The Chinese are split, the English speaking professionals simply do not comment and change the subject. The working stiffs that I need a translator to communicate with had a very animated reply to my query...that I'm certain the translator censored.

Korea is mountainous and every peak seems to have a beautiful Buddhist temple built on it, the temples I was fortunate enough to visit had excellent signage along the tourist's path, much like US National parks. The information is offered in Korean and English, numerous times I read a history of a temple that would read something like this: " The Bowsoma (made up name) Temple was originally erected in 850 and replaced by a larger structure in 1475 that was destroyed during the Japanese Invasion of 1683, it was rebuilt in 1722 and destroyed in the Japanese Invasion of 1794. The current temple was completed in 1814. (made up dates)

I didn't see any other responses so figured I'd chime in even though my experience here is limited. The Eastern Sierras (mainly around Mammoth area) are where I spend most of my time camping and exploring. I also did a handful of trails out in the Mojave desert last year. Some of this is likely similar to your terrain.

I ran the SL rated Wildpeaks and they were surprisingly great. I was a bit worried about punctures but never had one and that's after some very rocky trails and many of these rocks are quite angular and sharp opposed to round and smooth. Also plenty of rocky and washboard roads throughout these regions. Zero complaints about the tires, they did great with any terrain I threw at them.

I've only had them in snow once and it was 8-12" of fresh powder. I found a local trail, got up early and got first tracks up the trail. I was surprised how well they did. I was pretty much buried up to my skid plate and was able to just motor through the snow no problem. Even managed a 5pt turn needed to turn around and head back down without any issues. Haven't had them in slick/icy situations but in fresh snow they did fantastic.

So you work in the old Dunlop factory turning out Dunlops with a falken brand on them? Yeah, great technology there. Same old clam shell design that has been used there since it opened. Great tech in the day, but Michelin has a much better process and much more stringent supply chain. This means their product is more consistent and the tires are closer to being round than any one else. Unlike sumitomo when Michelin buys someone, they bring them up to their standards. They don't simply rebrand the product. Not knocking the product. Just pointing out the reality. What sumitomo did was sponsor a bunch of events, brought out hot girls and gave away a bunch of schwag to get their Falken brand out there. They invested nothing into the product. It was all marketing. Slapped the self proclaimed premium brand name on an average at best product and that is about it. Compare that to what Michelin did with BFG. They took an already established product and drastically improved the quality by building them in a state of the art manufacturing facility using quality supplies. Their marketing budget is about 10% of what Goodyear's is on a per tire basis. The products speak for themselves. We know people are suckers for marketing. Just look at Corona.

I get that you work for sumitomo and want to support your employer. Nothing wrong with that, but when you work at McDonalds, you can't compare your culinary expertise to Ruth's Chris.
