Falken Wildpeak Issues

I mounted 265/70/17 Falken Wildpeaks on a set of 17” vision wheels with no lift. I did have to remove the back mud flaps. I get just a bit of rubbing in the front. But other than that. The wheels and tires look and run great.

 

I’ve had the Falken Wildpeaks 265/70R17’s on 17” vision wheels for over a year with no major issues. (Knock on wood). They do rub just a bit in the front with sharp turns.

 

Did you do the ecgs bushing when you lifted?

 

Yeah wont be getting falkens again. Which is a bummer cause they are a great tire performance wise. Lower price not worth the head ache.

 

got mine put on today. 265/70/17 on TRD Pro 17" wheels. so far so good, no shake

 

I did not. But I have it in the box in my garage waiting to go in. Didn't have it at the time... Haven't noticed any sounds or vibes coming from the bushing, but have one ready to go and IF I ever get some free time I'll install it just to be done with it.

Had mine on since April, they still ride great.

 

Part of the reason is the Tacoma steering rack has very little preload. So a small variance in tire shape will effect the Tacoma were as say a Pathfinder it will not cause a vibration. I hate my Wildpeaks & will not be buying another set. They vibrate after numerous attempts to balance correctly with the newest Hunter road force balance & will be worn out by 30K. Garbage tire.

 

So I've noticed that almost everybody having vibration problems seems to have the stock trd wheels or aftermarket. Could that be the culprit? Mounting issues on certain wheels? Id be curious to hear if anyone with stock sr or sr5 wheels are having these problems as well?

 

Mounting maybe? It was a general question. It just seems like most of the people having problems seem to have a TRD OR or have aftermarket wheels. It's just an observation I had reading through this thread.

 

I would guess because majority of the people upgrading to these tires are running aftermarket wheels or are going on TRD models. Probably very low percentage of people putting them on SR wheels. Run silky smooth on my 4Runner TRD Pro wheels.

 

Funny... I don't know if I got used to it, or if the wobble has disappeared.

 

I have them and are convinced there junk, never balanced out and they make the front end feel like it going to bust apart turning at slow speeds

 

Mine have been great for the last 6 months. What tire pressure is everyone running? (For reference mine are 265/70R17)

 

I've had the 265 75 r16 on my sr5 wheels for a couple weeks now and have had no problems. So far these tires have been great

 

I had a set of wild peaks myself, 275/70/17s on aftermarket rims and had 60lbs road force on 2 out of 4 tires, couldn't get within acceptable balance without putting nearly 20 ounces of weight on the rim. Needless to say they went back and now I'm running terra grapplers. Run them on my taco and also a bigger heavier version on my 250 super duty. Lot of towing and lot of miles on both and couldn't be happier!

 

Mine rode great but..... after about 11-12000 km so 6-7000 miles i was down to half tread and the tires were dry rotted full of cracking. I was very dissatisfied and just went back to a toyo MT, which ride just as smooth.

 

I have these currently on my Tacoma and I can honestly say I will never buy or recommend these to anyone. In my experience I have had nothing but issues. Balancing issues, road vibrations about 55+, horrible tread wear. I had them rebalanced twice (road force balance after the first two failed to help), I had 3 alignments done on these to fix the uneven wear. Nothing seemed to help. After 22,000 miles I’m looking for new tires. I have accepted I may have gotten a set of a bad run, but with my experience with them, I won’t spend my money on wildpeaks. I think that they are way over hyped by many of the “overland’ communities and a cheap option but as many say ‘you pay for what you get’. I am going to go with higher ply and more reputable brand such as BFG or Cooper.

Just my 2 cents on these.

 

My experience is similar, mine were junk. But they were cheap, up front that is, but needing to replace them cancelled that out quickly.

I got what i paid for, cheap crap.
