So, I’m replacing all 4 tires. I have a 2020 TRD OR DCSB all stock and drive 99% on pavement. When I do drive in dirt it’s not “off road” just a fire road.

I went to the dealer and received a quote for a set of 265/75/16 BFG KO2’s. The price was good and I’ve always liked the look so I told them to order the K02’s and I’d be back tomorrow to have them installed. A couple hours later I started doubting my decision to go with a 10 ply tire. I hate a rough riding truck and didn’t want to take the hit on mpg’s.

I remembered hearing positive reviews on here about the Falken Wildpeaks so I called the dealer to see about getting the AT3w’s instead of the KO2’s but the dealer said they can’t get that tire.

However, my local Mavis can get the Wildpeaks for me tomorrow and it’s about $80-$100 cheaper and it’s the SL which should ride smoother, maybe save me some mpg’s or power since it’s a lighter tire 44lbs vs 50lbs. So, I’ve cancelled my Dealer appointment and have decided to go with the Falkens….. I think.

What do y’all think? Am I making the right move getting the Falkens based on my particular driving. I don’t really care about the little up front $$ savings. I just want a comfortable riding tire, similar performance to OEM, that looks more aggressive.

Thanks in advance! I hate making decisions.

I have had the Wildpeaks for 5 years now . 2 sets , 265/75 16s on OEM rims for the winter and 285/70 17s for summer on American Racing Bajas . Great tire in my opinion.

Long term opinions on the Falkens have been/are quite good. I'm in the same boat as you coming off Cooper Maxx tires. Love em but 10 ply boat anchors that I have a hard time justifying.

They are on my short list along with the toyo open country a/t3

So far at work we arent seeing big issues with then.

Toyo AT3's are getting LOUD with time, the Toyo AT2 was a great quiet tire, not the best performance but they lasted and wore nicely.

KO2's have their place, but for a safe purchase, the SL falken is a good choice.

My Wildpeaks were worn out at 30k. Luckily Discount Tire handled the warranty well.
I liked them very much, other than the terrible wear.

Zero, Im a tech so I can see a large sampling.

I run cheap cooper all terrains and separate winter tires.

2 of my fellow techs run AT3W for what its worth.

My next set will be Falken Rubitreks from Amazon. So cheap. I love my Wild peaks as a dedicated offroad tire but not so much the noise or gas milage. I also have a set of Hankooks which are super light and pretty impressive in mud and great in snow for a non aggressive tire. I vote get both e and sl loads. I also have a set of grabber hts. super light and handle like a car tire. I actually have had all these tires on my new Tacoma which as of tomorrow will be 1 year old. I offroad with 33s drive with 32s. Good thing my buddy owns a tire shop that does great alignments.

I have Toyo's on my F150. Started hearing some singing recently (34,000 miles). But I also had an alignment issue with uneven wear and cupping on the inside of the front tires. I'm not sure if the noise is the tires, or just the uneven wear. The alignment has been corrected and the tires rotated. I caught it before it got too bad and I'm hoping the tread depth will even out on those tires before time to rotate again.

But other than that, I've been happy with them.

    Crazy day.

Long story short- Mavis tried 3 times to increase the price I was quoted when ordering the tires. After visiting the shop I don't trust my local Mavis meth heads to install my tires. So, I just bought the tires and took them to my Toyota dealer to have them installed. In the long run, I will now be paying more for the Wildpeaks mounted and balanced w/alignment than I would had I just stuck with the KO2's from Toyota and I WON'T have Road Hazard protection on the Wildpeaks like I would have on the KO2's.

Hopefully, I love these Wildpeaks. If I had time to plan all of this out I'd probably have bought some 17" TRD wheels and probably chosen the 265/70/17 C-rated KO2's but I picked up a screw right at the side wall in 2 tires and woke up to a flat yesterday and had to immediately get tires. My local Dealerships didn't have any TRD wheels in stock, so I had to stick with 16's, and the heavy E-rated KO2's made me nervous that I'd feel every bump in the road for the next 40k-50k miles.

Should be picking up the truck from the dealer in an hour or 2. I hope everything balances out well and I don't have to think about this for a few years, lol.

Thanks to everyone, I appreciate the help.

I think you will be happy with your Wildpeaks in SL. My Tacoma tires have all been 265/75/16, I originally had Duratracs C. I then got ST Maxx E that lasted 60K and were quiet the first 35K, they did feel noticeably heavy, with a loss of power, and felt rough, but not much change in mileage from the C. I have just had the Wildpeaks in SL for about a month and as my grandfather used to say...it rides like a Cadillac. VERY smooth riding, definitely much more power and pep. The first day driving it with the Wildpeaks, the difference was night and day. Interesting enough, the mileage is the same as the E, but I like the ride so much I won't go back to E on a Tacoma. They stick to the pavement on the streets better than any AT tire I have had (and I also had BFGs back in day) . I have not done any serious offroading in them yet. My measure of a good offroad tire is simply this. Can it make it through a serious mud patch on a ranch road without putting it in 4x4.
I think they ST Maxx look better, but these ride so much better, they are worth it.
Paraphrasing someone...Most AT tires are offroad tires design to also go on the street. Wildpeaks are street tires designed to also go offroad.

How much did you pay and how much were they on Amazon? I had been watching the prices and Amazon had a sale when I bought mine for $185 (Normally $218), I showed it to discount tire and they matched it on the spot.

I just replaced my first set of wildpeaks with the same thing again. I looked at a lot of options and read lots of reviews thinking maybe I should give something else a try. In the end, I couldn't come up with a good reason to try something else. I found the wildpeaks to be great road tires with very good wet traction. They are also quite good in snow but not quite as good as my Nokian snow tires. Off road they have been just fine as well. I don't do crazy stuff and mostly rocky trails with some mud here and there or snow in winter. Even getting pretty worn I took them up Engineer pass and another 4wd road and had zero issues.

My first set did seem to wear a bit quickly. I was able to get two of them warrantied at 30k miles but the other two were still at 5-6/32 and I didn't want to wait anymore so just took the couple hundred bucks they offered for the two. I think I might just accept that new tires every 30k or so is the best way to just keep good tread. Harder tires might last longer but I think these slightly softer winter rated tires make more sense for me.
