We were talking winter tires on a 2wd or all seasons on a 4wd. And you're spouting with your ridiculous Civic comment.

Actually the OP was asking if he should put dedicate winter tires in his Tacoma or Falken Wildpeak ATWs on his Tacoma.

And everyone’s feedback was factual: dedicated winter tires are significantly better in the winter (generally/deep snow or ice) than even the best All Terrains with a 3 Peak Mountain symbol. That’s a fact.

then you came in all but hurt about specific scenarios and tried to deny facts with possible exceptions.

Id take my Honda Fit on blizzaks in a blizzard over my Pickup or 4Runner with ATs every single time. No one drive in several FEET of snow, buckaroo. Chill out haha

I am seeing the same. Great grip over the Toyos. Looking forward to offroad and bad weather.

If it helps any, I did some snow driving on some super hard packed snow. There was a hill, it was so slippery you couldn't walk up it with normal shoes. Truck went up it without slipping.

I have found my current Michelin defenders to be the best all around tire I have owned. I live in new England so that includes snowy and icy roads. I have had all terrains such as BFGs, falkens, BS revo2s, hankook atms, and the Defenders perform better all around than any of them did. They are also very good on dry or wet roads. I have had dedicated snow tires on a few vehicles and you can't beat them for winter use, nothing comes close really but that's what you would expect from a tire designed for very specific road conditions. Other than for the good looks, I can't see any reason to buy an all terrain tire over Defenders, they are very good tires. They are also light and will provide better gas mileage than most other tires in the same size. If I had the money I would run dedicated snow tires in a skinnier than stock size, then run a taller than stock Michelin defender the rest of the year. For me the "swiss army knife" or tires is the defenders, other than their plain Jane looks that is.

Blizzaks on this can drive through a foot of untouched snow on the road like it's not even there. I leave for work around 4:30 am so I encounter unplowed roads pretty regularly.

Anything deep enough to stop a car on snow tires will stop your truck on half worn all season tires too.

If that car has a dedicated 4wd system and the right tires. It will get farther than you. Proven fact. Dedicated 4wd systems do better in the snow

Careful now. He’s only specifically talking about a Honda Civic with FWD and exactly 5” of ground clearance specifically driving through exactly TWO WHOLE FEET of snow against his Tacoma with its amazing ground clearance (of 9 whole inches hahaha) so any other variables weren’t being discussed. Nor were facts. Lol

Ended up with the Coopers as dedicated winter tires then put a Wildpeak on as spare for the spring. There is snow forecast for tonight so we will see how they do tomorrow (unless I drive the WRX to have some fun20191023_130700_resized.jpg 20191023_130631_resized.jpg 20191023_130719_resized.jpg .

The E rated wild peaks are rated mud and snow. Same as SL is. The SL ship at 13/32 despite them listing at 14. and wear fast af. Plus wheeling them will chip them easy. The E rated are 18/32. The SL compound is far to soft. Give a mushy ride. Plus you’ll get far better sidewall strength in the E rated. These E rated ride better and track better than the SL. SL are a little better in the cold rain, but not a huge deal. Only extra weight is front skid and rock sliders. I would do blizzaks for the snows. Beast in snow.

I can attest to the faster wear on the softer compound. Gripped well in Moab but also wore well ha.

The coopers do very well in the winter. I run them in the winter as a dedicated snow tire.
