    1. Somewhere's in Sept is the thinking for the date.
    2. August in the Maze. Whew, the heat. Plus I wonder what kind of monsoon season were gonna get. Which could completely alter everything anyways. I was thinking of a back up plan. (San Juans?)
3/Bonus - Yes, the size of the group is getting there. Hence depending on peoples availability and actual commits. Could well end up being completely split up. I'd pass on info I have and set to whomever to plan the other group. By Next spring when it gets closer to getting the permits. I think I'll have a better idea of who's going and not. I hope?
Lets see the responses over the next few days.

Since it’s so far out it’s actually easier for me to commit this time (pending family emergencies, truck is broken, etc).

I’m 100% open for the entire trip as long as we have hard dates established by April so I can confirm getting time off for the exact dates.

Yeah, I know Aug in the Maze would be "interesting." I'm like Brent - the earlier we have dates, the more I can plan around it. And number of people I guess.

Thanks for putting this in there, made me realize it was the same for me.

@turbodb is definitely right, if everyone joins the group could end up huge and past the point of "enjoyable." Could be a good opportunity to divide into two groups with a big meetup for a night somewhere, but trail time divided into smaller teams.

In the parks we will be in different groups.
I can easy split 6 trucks into two groups and do a cross rotation. 3 groups gonna be tricky.
Like said far enough out I expect changes in personal as it gets closer.

The earlier the dates the sooner I can request time off. I can typically know a few months In advance if I can make it or not. If I can go it will be for the full duration . September definitely will give me enough time it remedy my fuel situation.

Just got reservations to camp in the Maze for four nights in mid April -- looking forward to some good hikes out of the Doll House. Spring reservations opened up today and when I checked late morning, 60% of the reservations were scooped up. I would recommend jumping on reservations the second they become available or you may be rethinking your entire plan.

    From the Canyonlands NP site:

All backcountry overnight campsites and areas become available on a seasonal basis, four months before the start of the season.
    • Spring permits (March 10 – June 9) open November 10.
    • Summer permits (June 10 – September 9) open February 10.
    • Fall permits (September 10 – December 9) open May 10.
    • Winter permits (December 10 – March 9) open August 10.

Alright everyone, I apologize for the delays in updates. Will @Sixthelement has been very busy with work, and I've been busy turning my DCLB into my new home, but I am here to announce the dates for this trip!

This trip will start on Friday, September 16th, 2022 and will terminate on Sunday, September 25th, 2022

This is based on the Labor Day Holiday (which occurs on the fifth of September, so we miss that potential additional busy-ness). It also puts us into the 'Fall' category for permits, allowing us extra time to get commitments and plan our route. It also puts us a bit later in the year, our 2021 adventure to this area of the world in early September teaching us that day time temps still exceed 90 degrees, while nights are plenty comfortable.

Please submit your willingness to participate by February 1st, 2022.

As you know, this trip is tricky with permits and group sizes, so priority will be given to those who can commit fully to the entirety of the trip.

    'Commit fully' is defined as:
    - Have, or will have, a vehicle with all of the requirements listed in the first post of this thread.
    - Approved time off from wherever you work.
    - Being able to meet at the start point on day one. Departing the trip early is much easier to coordinate. We will not prioritize those who cannot start the trip on day one. Too many previous trips tried to incorporate various people meeting various days/times, and it just creates too many problems.
    - The willingness to put yourself and your truck in uncomfortable/tricky situations. Getting cold feet deep into The Maze and wanting to turn around to leave won't be a good time for anyone. Must trust your machine, your own skills, and the others in the group.
    - The desire to travel at a 'slow' pace. Limited driving some days, with hikes, relaxation, sightseeing, etc. being a much larger percentage of the trip rather than simply crushing miles day after day.

I apologize if this seems direct or overly stringent, but this trip is going to be difficult for Will and I to plan as it is, last minute changes, or trying to modify the route due to X or Y will simply be too difficult. We participate in plenty of trips that are much more flexible, but this is not one of them.

Once we get our confirmations we can determine groups and all that jazz. We currently have a 9 truck limit. Six is more ideal, but we will see what happens.

Let me know if you have any questions.

@Sixthelement update OP with this info once you get back to normal life.

    For hormonal purposes ...

Here's a map I'm working on for our trip in April to the Canyonlands Maze District, one night at The Wall CG and three nights at the Doll House.

A work in progress, zoom way the hell in to see things.
