I was actually thinking the same thing! I just know we get awfully attached to the conveniences our trucks provide so I didn’t mention it… Haha

You aren't able to hike to the confluence from Spanish Bottom. That's not a hikable section. And no way you'd be able to paddle upstream to it either.

Also, if you want to camp a night at Spanish Bottom, you'll need a backcountry permit. I'd suggest a Packraft permit. There are tons available. It's $36 plus $5 per person. You can have a campfire in a fire pan and you'll need a toilet system (WAG Bag). Rangers like to check that area, and tickets are spendy if you don't have the right gear/permit!
But honestly, I'd recommend you just hike to the overlook and enjoy the view. That section of trail to the river SUCKS! And the Dollhouse/Granary area is cooler to explore anyway.

It looks as though rona has struck again.
I still have quite a bit of life left in my LT255/85R16 KM3's, but probably not enough to get me through this trip.
Apparently all of the tires are currently sitting off the coast of Kalifornistan, and who knows when they will be allowed into the country.
On that note, the local tire shops only have the following tires in stock, none of which I have ever used.

    Cooper ST Maxx
    Falken Wildpeak M/T
    Toyo Open Country M/T
    Yokohama Geolandar M/T

Does anyone have any real world experience with these tires?
    Thank you, Daryl

Cooper ST Maxx Tried and true good overall tire.
Falken MT Good new crappy worn
Toyo Good tire all together. But Toyo run heavy as tires
    Yokohama Good tires also

Personally it’s a toss up between rhe Cooper and Yokohama for me on that application

A lot of ranchers run the Cooper's and brag about wear, but they aren't out crawling through rock gardens with them.
I saw that the Toyo's where pretty heavy as well.

I really want to stick to the LT255/85R16's, but Discount does have a set of LT285/75R16's in the KM3's.

I'm pretty happy with my Yokohamas. I'm planning on using them in the 255 85 16 when I wear these out.

Daryl, I run the 255/85/R16 Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx on my Tacoma.

I like them a lot. Only a hair over 2,000 miles on them so far, but they have great on-road mannerisms and offroad they perform very well. I was blasting through a lot of the sand in the Mojave in just 2wd, swapping to 4Hi for the deep, soft stuff. Not enough real world miles to really give a complete perspective as to longevity, but I am not looking to change them at any point in time.

I ran the Yokos for a bit...they're great on both the trail and street, but sized really small and very squared off.

    True...performance was great.

I really dig my Maxxis RAZR MTs...I won't run another tire unless they stop making them.

    Yokohama Geolandar M/T's it is.
Called back and they said the only two they could get was these and the Toyo's. I was really leaning towards the Coopers, but currently unavailable through Discount.
Thank you all for your input. At least I only have to buy four of them, I can use my KM3's for spares.

I've been planning since November, now's the time to throw stuff in the truck. Tomorrow I will be zooming up I-15, destination The Maze. Weather at the Doll House looks somewhat cooperative, with highs in the 60s to upper 70s, and lows in the 40s and 50s.

Here's my favorite weather site for Canyonlands. It's usually pretty spot on. I clicked the Dollhouse for the location: https://forecast.weather.gov/MapCli...528953984&lat=38.163476015422106#.YlhyqpPMLX0
