same here, most of my settlements are at 85% my oberland got to 90% once but went back down. My covenant is stuck at 70% and is pretty crowded with not much space to keep building, I'm hoping these are correlated so that I can change supply routes and move people around.

 

I built all my crops at Covenant in the alleys between the existing buildings and the exterior settlement walls , thats also where I put a big generator and water pump

I built one new building and between that and the existing buildings I have 23 beds / settlers

I also have 1 of each shop there

I have heavy machine gun turrets placed at each location where the original ones were that I destroyed

I've done it once. I did it as soon as I could early in the game. I did a quest to clear Jamaica plain. After It was clear I went back when the two settlers showed up. I made one a farmer of 5 0r 6 muttfruit, and one got his own surgery center. That was it. Sit back and wait. It was actually at 98 or 99 when I got the dreaded " Jamaican Plain is under attack!". But I defended it, had a one hour nap and there it was.

After some research, I have found out that some settlers won't auto assign to beds. This seems to be a common problem in the happiness department. If you have 20+ people in a settlement like myself; You're going to have a hard time assigning each to a bed.

 

I have never assigned a bed to anyone ever. And never had a problem.

 

Yeah this is true , if you go to your settlement at say 2 or 3 in the morning , everybody except assigned guards should be asleep , if you find settlers hanging around and not sleeping you can manually assign them a bed , just go into workshop mode and assign them to a bed that is unassigned / unused

 

Maybe it's not a problem for everyone. As for me, all of my settlements have every happiness item I can build, and will not go above 90.

 

Sometimes its a pathing problem

ie the settler AI can't figure out a way to get to the bed

 

That didn't even cross my mind, I'll try that.

 

It is very hard, I agree. I actually did a bunch of research online so to speak, and what worked for me is keep it simple. It was 2 beds, 3 water, 3-5 food I don't exactly remember, and I also don't recall the defense level. I do know defense has to be double the resources at least and I can't help but think I would have went overkill!

 

My defense is 216, so I don't think that's the problem.

 

Everything I've read says all settlers have to have a job assignment too

 

I have pretty much the same situation, except I put my plants by the front of the houses and kept the original garden to the right. Up top is pretty much my barracks and then I have one large generator with a siren, bell, and beacon by the center tree. This is pretty much my secondary supply "hub" besides starlight theater.

 

Yes, hence 2 settlers, one farms and one runs the surgery center. Try a settlement with only two people and just enough food and water, and a surgery center. Too many settlers just mucks stuff up.

Everything else I've said suggests 20+ settlers

I only have 3 at Abernathy right now because I haven't built a beacon , maybe I'll give it a try there

 

Do it, just make 2 surgery centers instead of one.

 

Covenant is the old folks home for all my companions , I sent them all there except Danse who is at Sanctuary , Nick is at his office in Diamond City and X6-88 and Gage are dead

 

2 centers? I didn't think putting more than one would increase happiness on top of what one of each type already does.

 

I'm buulding up the hydro tower at Abernathy , I think its gonna be pretty sweet

 

Actually @OZ-T , I think Abernathy is a tough one because of the named settlers.
