I guess Im not seeing how this crafting system is getting such rave reviews when its really just a very simple, yet large system. All you have to do is scrap everything you find for the material then select the mod you want from a list. yes perks unlock somethings you cant normally get but again thats just select it from a list. Yeah each weapon has 6 sub catorgies and each one of those has quite a few options but again just selecting from a list.

Dont get me wrong i like the system, its just not as fancy or indepth as i keep hearing people make it out to be. Indepth to me would be the old Star Wars galaxies style crafting. Where the material you put in actually effects the outcome of what you are making. IE use a rusted can might give +5 damage but using a rust free can would give +7 damage.

As a former SW:G crafter I hear what you're saying and agree.

BY point was, though, that the crafting system is HUGE, robust, fairly user friendly (as far as making it easy to do shit, and supporting things like 1 button dump at this crap to the table inventory and tagging item for looting searches), and really powerful in all the stuff you can make.

Most other games crafting systems that I've played with recently were painfully bad, crappy, button-mashing tedium or just overall ineffective and not worth using at all.

Going forward, big named game releases in development are prolly gonna have to look to this as the model to shoot for, which is GOOD for us !

Got the CPU and mobo in. Game looks incredible on ultra. Still having some random fps drops though. Common on AMD systems apparently. Hopefully they patch it.

Ahhh gotcha! Yeah this crafting system isnt bad. Its not complex which has benifits and disadvantages. But its nice to be able to turn a regular 10mm gun into anything you want...high damage clunker or a longer range pistol.

Anyone else finding that ammo and stimpacks are MUCH harder to come by in this game? I find myself using none of the auto weapons because they deplete my ammo too fast and rarely using stimpacks until I absolutely need too. I quicksave a lot and redo battles to preserve supplies. I never really did that in any of the fallout games before.

This is definitely a way harder Fallout game to me than the last one. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I want to throw the controller hard, but I'm constantly worrying about how much ammo I have and what enemies are around the corner, which I almost never did in Fallout 3.

The crafting is sweet but it's hard to find some of the crafting items in large supplies. I'm not complaining about the system. It's neat, but slightly annoying to have to constantly be digging around for the mods I think I might need.

I'm not sure about the shelter building yet. It seems like they forgot to put some items in because certain prefab sections don't line up with, well, anything else? Also, I'm not quite understanding the whole point of the system but I'm guessing it has something to do with the minutemen? Maybe at some point, like Mass Effect 3, by having enough settlements you get better reinforcements in the final battle? Who knows, I don't want to spoiler alert but I'm really hoping I'm not spending hours building up and reinforcing settlements just to learn settlement building is just a Sim City addon to Fallout.

Also, hopefully the OP enemies get easier as you level up. If it hadn't of been for a fatman I found there was no way for me to deal with a glowing ghoul.

You can mod the gun you have with the mods from the other gun BUT you'll need to create stock components to make it happen (at least, this is what I've found). IE if you want a scope from another gun on your gun, you'll have to replace that scope with a stock one you make and then put the scope on your gun. It would make sense for you to be able to just do swaps, but I haven't found a way to do that yet...

Oh, and I love how you can blow the legs off of ghouls. It's tactically brillant. When a group of ghouls is too big or you just want to save ammo, try to separate them so one comes at you at a time and then blow one of their legs off as they come through the door with vats. Then you can save you ammo and kill them all with a bayonet weapon as they look at you haplessly from the ground.

The first time I did it I nearly shit my pants laughing at the pile of squirming ghouls ready for me to reap their XP.

Also junk items found in the world dont need scrapped to be used. Just transfer to the workshop and they will be used as needed. Major plus in saving time.

I have only seen 1 trader so far.

Game is hard, at least for me being new to the tactics. But i dont find myself running out of ammo and restarting battles to try again. I also have the first level of ammo finding though so it may help.

Stimpaks though i cant find for the life of me. Have only died a few times though.

This I did not know :annoyed:
Oh I haven't died a pile of times but it is annoying to switch weapons all the time based on ammo supply. It takes up weight for other items.

Now that I made it to the city I find buying stimpacks is working out okay but it does hamper my ability to bribe or pay for other things. Plus, like the other Fallout games, you get ripped a new one with traders. I've got the stimpack scavenging perk and I'll get the ammo one on the next level. After that I'll definitely be getting the trader perks. AH, FALLOUT LEVELING CONFLICTS :D

Ha. Yea the other way would be to drop everything on the ground then enter the workshop mode and scrapping everything but dont need to do that. Although it would make organization easier - but it does count materials automatically when crafting stuff.

Good to know! I actually just dropped everything and scrapped it that way the first time. Wont be doing that again. Would be nice if they added a "scrap all" or something though.

I agree. It would be a nice add for a "scrap all junk"

I find some of the shooting finicky, but maybe just cause im used to pointing where to shoot and it goes directly there. This game seems to have more "realistic" mechanics for shooting. I seem to miss a lot.

But smashing heads off with a sledge hammer is tons of fun. Cant wait to get a decent mod on it.

I did that the first time.figured it out shortly after that it wasnt needed.

Stimpacks i dont seem to find very often. But theres enough other "stuff" to heal that i havent had to much of a problem on that end. Other than not going to the Doc soon enough and trying to do missions with 3/4 of my health bar being red from rad.

As for ammo....i find it comes and goes. Seems like the main missions have been giving a good amount. But any side missions or just side areas barely have any. But ive been ok on ammo but i am a bit more cautious with it. Save the good ammo for the high damage guns and try to use guns like the 10mm and 38 mostly.

Cant wait to get level 13 to unlock the gun crafting level 2 perk. Going ot be some nice big boosts in damage :)

Yup, the 10 mm seems to be old faithful in this game.

I just added the stimpack perk and now every raider seems to have a stimpack...

I was playing New Vegas for a couple of months before the FO4 release and compared to that, I've found it much easier to get stimpacks and ammo.

And yes, that glowing ghoul in the schoolhouse was rough! Luckily, I had Strong, the super mutant, as my companion. He tanked and I sat back with a mini gun where the ghoul couldn't reach me. Took about 10 minutes to beat.

I'm level 17 and I am still rocking a set of crappy armor with only 36 damage resistance haha.

I found some armour mid quest by luck and I'm only rocking about 30 armour :(.

It seems like to find the really good stuff there are some level limits. In the end the lack of permapowerarmour is what hurts the most.
