Yep, I was pissed about the defenses. When you clear them out, you can't build over them, at least not immediately. I'll check again to tonight.

I ran across that amphitheater during one of the side missions I found near the old north church. I didn't try to get in with them.

Im actually thinking i might start over with another character. Keep my save for the character i have now. I played as sort of just a general gunslinger build with the BoS. The next round i might go for a sneak/sniper type build and go railroad. Then do another build with the institute.

Though I have a feeling the DLC's will be neutral to the three factions so it wont matter who you side with

Pretty interesting how the dynamics of fallout have changed from fallout 3s karma, to NVs wearing certain faction's apparel, to now this.
But I think dlcs will be neutral as well no matter how you've played out the game.

If you're at a settlement then it's referring to your water in the workstation

I only found it hard for the first few hours. Once you start exploring you find enough telephones, fuses, etc that copper never seems to be an issue. A little hint is that if you are making enough water to finally start trading some open your own junk shop and sell your water for random items with copper, aluminum, gears, oil, and screws in them. Those seem to be the items I needed the most.

Oh, and get the scavenger perk that gains you back better bits and pieces when you break down guns on the work bench. That way all the modified guns you find help contribute to your stockpile of junk.

Yup. And I think it's scrapper level 2 that highlights all the items in the world that contain the items you're searching for...invaluable.

What I noticed is scrapping all the street lamps in Sanctuary and the Star-Light Drive in. They had enough copper to get plenty of wire and generators built. I wish aluminum was easier to find. I'm an Intel and Strength build running around in Power Armor, X01 armor is great, but costs tons of aluminum to fix!

Surgical Trays, TV Dinner Trays, and Alarm Clocks are good sources of aluminum that I find quite often.

there are actually a couple of factories that have a bunch of aluminum trays in them. Can't quit remember where, but I'll try to look them up.

The Mahkra Fishpacking in the extreme northeast corner of the map and Longneck Lukowski's Cannery still in the northeast area (near Salem) are a couple that I can think of.

The Institute also has a bunch of items that can be scrapped for aluminum.

Edit: I think 4 Leaf Fishpacking also has a bunch of trays.

After awhile does the items repopulate? Like if you cleared out the factory and went back in a week (game time) later could you pick it all up again?

I've never tried, so I don't know. Probably not.
