I believe my fan clutch is bad. For the last 4 days I've been getting an extra noise all the time when running that I now believe to be coming from the fan. At first it was spinning an extra second after engine shutoff with a friction noise and I couldn't identify that it was the fan. Now it's worse and today it's spinning freely for several seconds on shutoff with the same noise that I can clearly see is the fan. I can wobble it a bit by hand on the clutch and also spin it many rotations by hand which I know isn't good.

I watched part of Timmy's Fan Clutch Replacement video and it looks pretty easy.

Rockauto has a nice selection of fan clutches. Any experience with these listed?
    https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog...78930,cooling+system,radiator+fan+clutch,6812

Weird thing is I don't see a clutch from Toyota listed to verify the OEM part# compatibility on rockauto. Only the blade is shown?
    https://parts.toyota.com/a/Toyota_1...27119/RADIATOR--WATER-OUTLET/675460-1603.html

Any other parts I should replace in there?

I should have plenty of time, right? It seems like it's just extra noise and reduced performance?

    Not compatible. That's year 2000+.

OReilly local store has an Import Direct. Maybe get that one, assuming there's no other parts that might be failing around there that I need to replace too? If that's it then this job looks super easy.

The Toyota parts catalog lists the clutch in the water pump page of the engine section: https://parts.toyota.com/a/Toyota_1...WD/_51507_6733428/WATER-PUMP/675460-1601.html

Looks like Aisin FCT013 corresponds to the Toyota P/N: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=1944872&cc=1278930&pt=6812&jsn=404

Give the radiator a good hose-down while the clutch (and fan) are out.

FYI, my new Import Direct / Hayden 2670 fan clutch sounds and test drives good. This turned out as one of the easiest jobs I've ever done.

I've had a rhythmic vibration for a couple years when under steady load going uphill at ~55mph. That appears to be gone too. It was all the fan clutch. I wonder if a couple nuts were not seated properly on the original one by a mechanic at some point, the way it had a little wobble.

When it gets warm outside are you hearing a loud whirring sound coming up front also?

Glad to see a new fan clutch fixed your problem. If this one goes out in the future I'd recommend the Aisin unit since those are OEM for our rigs. I replaced mine almost 2 years ago and it's running great now.

I don't know what you mean by warm? But yes the fan does have a different behavior than OEM, if what I'm hearing is the fan.

H0t 90 degree day, even at operating temps, when you go through the gears, do you hear the fan?
Im manual and i noticed in summer there is greater fan noise and im wondering if my fan clutch is on its way out. When cold, I can spin the fan maybe 1/2 a rotation is all

It sounds like it probably is going out. 1/2 turn after you let go is too much if I understand right.

Does the Alsin/OEM perform better than the Hayden? The Hayden is roaring the fan at weird times at low speed like the OEM never did. At least I think that's what I'm hearing.

Just buy a new Aisin green band.

It's cheap, easy to replace, and will keep your truck as cool if not cooler from the factory depending on the clutch it came with.

The Aisin orange band is the common one found on most of these trucks unless you got a specific package.

One of those "why would you buy any other brand" sort of parts.

I just see the Aisin FCT-013 as compatible.

Any reason I might benefit from a new fan blade too? Aisin makes one too.

It turns out that rhythmic vibration at high speed uphill that I thought was fixed by this isn't gone. Makes me wonder if that could be a tweaked fan blade, if the fan clutch is even engaged at that speed? The blade looks fine from what I see.

Yes, FCT-013 is the one you want.

FCT-067 is also a direct replacement, but meant as a lighter duty variant. Use the first one mentioned.

As for the blade, I can't comment on that. You'll want to visually inspect it once you pull it off. Make sure your shroud is properly attached too.

About a 10-15 min job to replace.

Also check the bracket/flange the fan clutch mounts to. I had a bearing in there go out as well. Easy to replace if needed. Also agree why wouldn't you just go OEM/Aisin on this? As for it being locked at weird times, I wouldn't worry about it until it stops locking/your truck gets really hot sitting in traffic.

Well I tried taking the fan bolts off again and this time instead of loosening easily like they did 2 weeks ago the bolt heads rounded off after hours of trying to get them off with a few wrenches and doubling up the wrenches to extend them. I must have tightened them more than I thought. I stopped after I rounded off the first two. I guess I'm stuck with the loud and annoying Hayden fan clutch that won't disengage. I'll order new bolts just in case and try vise grips, but I'm not optimistic that I can get any leverage on the bolts because the pulley just rotates. I just don't understand how I could have possibly gotten them so tight. There's no leverage to hardly get them tight enough even to stay on. The pulley rotates on you. Yet they're suddenly welded on. What the hell happened????

Great, Toyota just changed their parts site and it's impossible to find anything. I enter my vin over and over it and it just shows a list of 2000 parts. The categories are no longer filtered by vin. I click on anything and it's a 404 error. They have no contact info for the parts site.

partsouq shows nothing but the fan itself. Nothing about bolts or clutch.

I think I'm done working on this stupid truck forever, or any Toyota. If I can't look up parts anymore then this is impossible. All I did was put myself in a bad mood, waste a whole afternoon, and ruin bolts. 15 minute job my ass.

I'm sorry, it can be frustrating when something goes wrong and then gets worse.

Best to just step away for a bit and gather yourself versus doing more damage.

Maybe someone near you can help? As for the bolts, they're metric so if you get one off you can measure it and get replacements at any hardware store.

    They're what, M8? I know for anything smaller than M10 they're usually 1.0
