Need to replace the fan clutch in my 03 Tacoma (orange housing) without the towing package.

Has anyone installed a tow-package (Green) fan clutch on a non-tow package tacoma before? If so do you also need a different pitched fan blade? Couldn't find a different blade on rock auto. Already have the external transmission cooler and just looking to improve the life of the truck. Thank you

I have. I didn't notice a difference in the fans. I believe the tropical (tow) clutches just engage at a lower temperature.

Okay thank you. You reused the original fan blade right?

No. I'm pretty sure I reused both the green clutch and it's OG fan.

I have swapped a green one on my truck without a tow package. Used the same fan that was on my non tow package truck.

why do you "need" to replace it? Is it leaking the silicone fluid or? They are servicable, it just depends on if you want to spend the time tinkering or not. I have had more sucess's than failures in serviceing them but then I didnt wait until it started to leak.

It fails to engage resulting in the truck overheating a low speed or stoplights. I took a look at the clutch I did not see any silicone fluid coming out of it. I ended up ordering the tow package clutch from Rock Auto. Hopefully this will fix the overheat issue and fingers crossed that I caught it in time and didn't do further damage to head gasket or other engine components. Thank you all for your responses
