Thanks to Choads for this post (#363) on this chat, I used his old to new wiring diagram to get through my project. My fan was nothing or high.

I had replaced my resistor a couple years back with the cheaper Dorman resistor and it went, again. So, this time I used the Toyota parts....new resistor and harness. Followed the wiring above and it works perfectly. I'll post some pics here for all.

The old stuff I took out:

The parts from Toyota (in total $118 Canadian):

New harness and resistor installed, I left osme extra wire in case I had to ever do it again, after this pic I taped it up and out of the way:

Hey guys 2008 TRD Sport here. have been part of the wiggle wire/plug trick crew for about 2 years now. Most recently the wiggle trick has not been working. I pulled the plug entirely and was surprised that when the fan was on high the air will still operate without this plug even plugged in ? Apologies but this is normal right? Also, I had been sensing the smell of burning wires lately and I sure hope that this is what the problem is. Ordered the cheap Amazon combo and will attempt DIY repair this weekend. Hoping for the best with upcoming So Cal heat wave. How far back do i need to cut on the old wires ? thanks everyone

When the switch is on high, it is essentially bypassing the resistor completely.

I have had the part for over a year but the job is such an awkward pain and have yet to do it.
    Instead it’s high or off.

I also had the intermittent loss of the lower speed fan settings. Found carbon tracking in the female side of the connector to the resistor block, specifically on the larger diameter (incoming 12 V power) conductor. Obviously a poor (loose) fit up of the pin and collar of the connection. Permanently fixed by inserting a shim made from a tiny piece of copper foil into the collar side to tighten up the connection. Cost less than 1 cent worth of material.

This is so appreciated. My lower fan speeds stopped working so I checked the connector and found it was slightly yellowed on one plug connector. I added diaelectric grease, reconnected and everything is working again! It already had the TSB wiring done, but I guess the connections get loose and short out?
Fingers crossed my problem is solved.

The connection doesn’t short out. When the mated tip and sleeve of a connector are loose, arcing and sparking will occur between the two and heat is generated that causes the discoloration of the affected conductor. Applying dielectric grease may work for a while but what’s really necessary is to ensure the two halves of the connector are in proper tight contact. A small piece of copper foil inserted into the collar side of the affected wire connector will ensure that proper contact is maintained.

So what should I do if I replace the resistor and 4 pin connector per this thread and the fan still doesn’t work in any speed? I didn’t have a fan intermittently for a few weeks now. No burn marks on anything.

Disregard, I just tapped on the bottom of the blower motor and it fired right up. I guess I should have read a little closer and would have save myself the time and money of replacing the resistor and connector. Now I guess I need to order a blower motor.

Big thanks for this thread. I swapped out my soviet-looking resistor with a new one and now I no longer have to use my blower on high
